Tim Watson Biography

Friday, 23 August 2013

Tim Watson hits back at Fairfax journalist Caroline Wilson, calling her claims that he is an unconcerned parent amidst the Essendon supplements scandal 'disgusting'.

"I find it a little bit disgusting really that that has become a narrative in this story," Watson said.

"The suggestion that I'm an unconcerned parent that's been fed to create some sort of narrative on behalf of the club, well quite frankly that disgusts me."

Watson revealed he had had a conversation with Wilson, leaving no doubt as to how disappointed he was with her article.

"She clearly understands what I thought of what she wrote," Watson said.

"I spoke to her in a way that I have never ever spoken to a female before in my life and it didn't really make me feel any better."

Andrew Demetriou has described as "offensive" suggestions by Tim Watson that the AFL has predetermined sanctions for Essendon over the drugs saga.

"I was really surprised by those comments," Demetriou said.

"In short I think they are offensive, to suggest the AFL commission and the people on the commission would somehow pre-determine an outcome is offensive and just plain wrong."

Reports emerge of Essendon players, including reigning Brownlow medallist Jobe Watson, having been injected with performance enhancing drugs during the off-season of 2012.

Speculation is rife as to the consequences for these players, including the possible stripping of Watson's Brownlow medal, should they be found guilty of doping.

Essendon legend Tim Watson says he would be "absolutely devastated" if his son Jobe was stripped of his Brownlow Medal.

"As a parent, I'd be devastated for him," Watson said.

"I'd be completely and utterly destroyed and that is one of the components of this story too, there are lots of things that are going on that we don't know about.

"I've got no idea where this investigation will go and I don't think anybody does."

Jobe Watson will captain the Bombers in their elimination final against Adelaide after Matthew Lloyd was suspended for four matches.

His father, Essendon great Tim Watson, says he is proud of his son.

"Yes, I am, but no more proud of him because he's captaining the side than I am any other time," he said.

"It's always a big honour to captain your club. It's a great achievement for him, I think."
