Ashley Hansen Biography

Thursday, 15 August 2024

West Coast remains confident there are talented external coaches available who could fill its senior vacancy as it prepares to widen the search following unsuccessful approaches to several leading candidates.

The Eagles have encountered early challenges with prime targets who have opted out of the process because of a reluctance to relocate young families, including premiership pair Ashley Hansen and Dean Cox.

AFL.com.au also reported that prime target and Essendon assistant Daniel Giansiracusa had also chosen to remain in Victoria for family reasons after being approached by the Eagles, while Melbourne assistant Andrew McQualter was considering whether or not to apply.

Geelong is targeting Western Bulldogs assistant Ash Hansen as part of its new-look coaching panel for next season after locking in favourite son James Kelly on Monday.

Kelly returns to the Cats where he won three flags as a player before moving to Essendon to finish his career and enjoying a brief stint in the coaches' box.

The Western Bulldogs have secured a second former West Coast player Ashley Hansen as a development coach for season 2013.

"Ashley is another person we've brought into the club, who possesses some terrific characteristics which we believe will be beneficial to our developing group of players," Bulldogs football manager James Fantasia said.

"We know Ashley is a terrific club person, and his AFL experience along with a Master's degree in Exercise Science make him another quality acquisition to our football department."

Ashley Hansen could be the latest high-profile player to get the axe as John Worsfold reacts to the derby loss.

Tuesday, 4 December 2007

Dean Cox and Tyson Stenglein are named as Eagles vice-captains to recently appointed skipper Darren Glass with Ashley Hansen, Adam Selwood and Matthew Priddis rounding out the West Coast leadership team.

The leadership group was selected based on votes by the Eagles players. Current vice-captain Andrew Embley was elected not to remain in the leadership group.

Eagles coach John Worsfold said that Embley would still provide leadership to the team while not in an official capacity.

"He possesses certain leadership qualities that we may not have included in the ones that we got the players to vote on," Worsfold said of Embley.

"I'll go through with him the areas in the votes where he was lower in our criteria that he could be higher."
