Paul Bower Biography

Saturday, 20 October 2012

Delisted former Blue Paul Bower is back training in a bid to be ready should a club offer him a career lifeline.

"I just want to get a pre-season somewhere, hopefully a club gives me that opportunity," Bower said.

"You know, I'm just going to bust my arse and train really hard and hopefully impress the club and get a second chance.

"It's obviously devastating getting the news from Carlton, I want to prove them wrong, I think I've got a lot to offer."

Seven months after being mentioned as trade bait and coming off a quiet 2011 season, Paul Bower says he has never been so hungry to keep his spot in Carlton's best 22.

"I definitely feel like a first-year player again," Bower said.

"The game changes every year, so you can't just have one or two good years and expect to be picked [regularly]. I had to start again and that's the attitude that I've got to have coming off one or two bad years.

"That's really motivated me and spurred me on. I've never been this hungry and this desperate to get a game."

Bret Thornton joins young guns Dennis Armfield and Paul Bower is signing new two-year deals with Carlton.

Young guns Dennis Armfield and Paul Bower also agreed to extend their current contracts by two years on the weekend.

"Bret is now one of our senior players and while still young at just 25 years of age, he is one of the oldest players on the Carlton list," general manager of football operations Steven Icke said.

"Dennis and Paul were both recruited to the club from Western Australia. While Paul's development as an attacking defender has been on show this season, equally impressive for us has been the development of Dennis in his second season in the AFL."
