Rhan Hooper has told Hawthorn he will not play for the club next year as he wants to return to Queensland to start a family.

Hawthorn recruit Rhan Hooper injures his hamstring in his first outing for the Hawks against Geelong.

"Hooper did his hamstring in the first two minutes of the game, so that was a bit of a downer for us, because he was outstanding last week," Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson said.

Rhan Hooper says he wants to leave his frustrations from his time at the Brisbane Lions behind him after being recruited by the Hawks in the 2009 national draft.

"That's all in the past now. I just want to move forward and hopefully get into the finals this year," Hooper said of this time in Brisbane.

"Right up to the end I wasn't quite sure who I was going to go to, but Hawthorn is a strong club and I look forward to playing a couple of senior games this year if I can force my way through."
