Mitchell Thorp Biography

Monday, 23 September 2013

Ex-Hawk Mitch Thorp likely to be drafted, his manager Liam Pickering said.

Thorp completed a fairytale year for South Launceston in the Tasmanian State League on Saturday.

Pre-game, Thorp was presented with the league's best and fairest award before he then lead the Bulldogs to a rags-to-riches flag against reigning premiers Burnie at Aurora Stadium.

"I'm confident he'll get drafted, either as a rookie or in the national draft," Pickering said.

"You can never be over confident, but looking at a few clubs that don't really have any forwards, he could have a huge impact straight away and he's still young too.

"He's the perfect age, a ready-made player and he's matured greatly since his first shot (at AFL level)."

Former first-round draft pick Mitch Thorp's manager Liam Pickering believes the forward will get a chance at another club after being delisted by the Hawks.

''A 20-year-old key position forward and he didn't go at pick six for no reason ... he's a talented player and he will get an opportunity, I'm convinced of that,'' Pickering said.

Hawthorn has delisted Mitch Thorp and rookies Haydn Kiel and Tim Walsh.

"Unfortunately, Mitch has been limited by injury in the first three years and as a consequence, has had little opportunity to play senior footy at Hawthorn," recruiter Chris Pelchen said.

"Mitch requested to be considered for a trade, but unfortunately this was not able to be achieved during trade week."

"After further consultation with Mitch and his management, we felt it was best for Mitch's interests to seek a fresh start at another club."

Prized Hawthorn draft pick Mitch Thorp has suffered another savage injury blow.

The Hawks last night confirmed Thorp would take at least three months to recover from a broken sesamoid bone in his left foot.

Thorp had surgery on Friday to remove a bone fragment and have a pin inserted.
