Kurt Tippett joins Gold Coast's coaching staff on a part-time basis in 2021 and will work with the club's ruckmen and key forwards. "We've got some young developing key forwards and obviously I knew Kurt from my time in Sydney, and a couple of our coaches are from Adelaide," Suns head coach Stuart Dew said. "He lives around the corner and I ran into him and asked if he's got a bit of spare time. Lucky for us he has and he's going to be involved in a small way but we think he's a great mentor for our young keys."

Sydney select Kurt Tippett with pick No.42 in the 2018 Rookie Draft.
Friday, 9 November 2018
Kurt Tippett is set to be rookied by Swans as part of his retirement settlement with the Swans. "In keeping with AFL rules and regulations, it is the club’s intention to re-draft Tippett in the upcoming AFL Rookie Draft so that the club can fulfil the terms of an agreed settlement," the club said in a statement. "Tippett, who retired from AFL football in January 2018 due to injury problems, is not fit for football and has no intention of returning to the AFL. "With this statement we consider the matter closed. No parties will make any further comment."

Sydney coach John Longmire says he was not blindsided by Kurt Tippett's sudden retirement. "We knew once he had the ankle reconstruction that it was going to be a big challenge to go through the whole rehab process again to get back and play," Longmire said. "You underestimate the mental challenges you have when you do that year on year and he's had a few of those over the journey. "People don't understand how tough it was for him last year."
Monday, 22 January 2018
Kurt Tippett announces his retirement from football, effective immediately because of a degenerative ankle injury. The 30-year-old played 74 games for the Swans since his high-priced – and controversial – transfer from Adelaide in 2013 where he played 104 games. He had three years remaining on his contract. "It's really tough to leave a game and a club which I really love, but the reality is that my body isn't going to stand up to the rigours of professional football. As I've found out in the past 18 months or so, it's impossible to play at the level you want without being fully fit," Tippett said. "I want to thank the Swans and also the Crows for the opportunity to fulfil my dream to play and compete in the AFL. I would also like to thank my teammates and coaches, particularly John Longmire and Neil Craig, and the fans and supporters of our great game."

Swans football manager Tom Harley says Kurt Tippett played the 2017 season under duress after injuring his ankle in round two. "The damage was done the first time he did it primarily, but he had some more minor incidents after that, and just had some general instability from there," Harley said. "In the Carlton game (in round 23) he also had an episode so basically the operation is to rectify those issues, and it basically tightens up the ligament and makes the joint more stable. "That'll mean that if he stands on someone's foot it doesn't roll, and that was the issue with him during the back end of the year."

Kurt Tippett's battle to become a regular senior player again became harder, after the Swan underwent an ankle reconstruction.
Monday, 9 October 2017
Sydney footy operations manager Tom Harley refuses to categorically rule out Kurt Tippett being moved on from the club. Tippett managed just nine games for the Swans this year, after 17 the year before, with unheralded ruck/forward Callum Sinclair moving ahead of Tippett in the pecking order. "He's contracted but we come in with an open mind … but we're not pre-empting anything with Kurt," Harley said.
Monday, 18 September 2017
Sydney CEO Tom Harley says rumours of Kurt Tippett leaving the club are unfounded. "[Tippett] had a wretched year. He had a ripping pre-season, which is the disappointing part now. He hurt his ankle in round two, he battled his way through that," Harley said. "He's going to require some surgery on his ankle, the extent of that is to be determined. "He really battled and I know it was outside of the glare of the AFL media bubble, but he battled pretty manfully to get himself up to play a couple of those AFL games and certainly in the NEAFL, so he's going to be better for the surgery and remains an important part of our team."

Kurt Tippett's push for a recall to Sydney's senior side has hit another hurdle with the big Swan set to miss at least one game with an ankle injury. "He's got an ankle (injury) that's sort of been grumbling along a little bit and that means that he'll miss this week," Sydney coach John Longmire said. "He got through the game on the weekend but pulled up a bit sore and it's just been getting worse and worse, so we've got to make sure we get him right."
Thursday, 15 June 2017
Sydney coach John Longmire says Kurt Tippett must work his way back into the side after being dropped following an underwhelming performance against Hawthorn in round 10. "He just has to work on a few things and make sure he has a real presence in the air and on the ground," Longmire said. "It's pretty basic. He certainly improved in those areas last week and I'm sure he will continue to improve, whether that's this week in the seniors or not. "There's nothing wrong with his attitude. His attitude is always really good."

Kurt Tippett will miss at least one game after suffering an acute ankle sprain in the Grand Final rematch against the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium.

Kurt Tippett has escaped bone damage to his left ankle after landing awkwardly, but will have scans to assess the extent of the injury he suffered against the Western Bulldogs.

Kurt Tippett says he favours the elimination of the 'third man up' at ruck contests. "Limiting that 'third man up' means guys are potentially going to get more creative and try to give their team the advantage," Tippett said. "I think the new rule definitely places more onus on the ruckman, especially late in games, because teams used to employ the 'third man up' to get the ball moving in tight situations if they needed to score quickly. "The ruckman is going to be really important and we're going to have to execute our plans well."

Kurt Tippett remains a chance to play again this season with news that he won't need surgery on his fractured jaw.
Thursday, 18 August 2016
The Swans' decision to send ruckman Kurt Tippett in for surgery on his injured hamstring tendon looks to have been a masterstroke. Tippett's season looked in danger of ending abruptly when he went down in the Swans' round 12 loss to Greater Western Sydney, and after initially deciding against an operation, the club sought a second opinion that recommended he go under the knife. Fast forward just over two months and Tippett looks set to return to the field against North Melbourne at Blundstone Arena this week. "It was certainly relevant to have the operation when he did, (because) it's allowed him to get back now, rather than waiting until next year," Longmire said. "We actually put him on the long term injury list with the hope that he'd be up and going (by now), and it was a good thing to do because the temptation might have been there (to select him) last week. "It gave him an extra week of training which has been quite handy for him."

Kurt Tippett is placed on Sydney's long-term injury list after partially tearing the hamstring tendon in his left leg against Greater Western Sydney.
Friday, 17 June 2016
Kurt Tippett will be out for at least eight weeks after undergoing surgery on his injured left hamstring tendon. The Swans initially hoped Tippett would be able to avoid surgery and return within six weeks, but after consultation with a surgeon, the club determined surgery was the best option. "We wanted to ensure the best possible outcome for Kurt, so our medical team conducted extensive consultation and research on the best way to heal this type of injury," Swans football manager Tom Harley said. "The decision to operate was made yesterday and Kurt underwent surgery in Melbourne last night to have a procedure on his tendon."
Sunday, 12 June 2016
The Swans are facing the prospect of being without ruckman Kurt Tippett for an extended period, after he damaged a hamstring tendon in his side's 42-point loss to Greater Western Sydney.

Crows assistant coach James Podsiadly says Adelaide players will hide any deep-seated animosity towards Kurt Tippett and give the Sydney Swans forward the cold shoulder. Tippett will front against the Crows at home for the first time since walking out on the club. "The players won't give him any response apart from he's wearing a Sydney jumper and we need to defend him when he has got the ball and when he's in motion," Podsiadly said. "The crowd - it's entirely up to them."
Monday, 11 April 2016
Crows fans have waited four years for Kurt Tippett. Tippett was suspended, then injured, for Sydney's visits to play Adelaide since leaving the Crows in a move central to punishment for draft tampering for both the club and player. The 201cm key forward will line up for Sydney against the Crows in Adelaide for the first time on Saturday night since his acrimonious departure in 2012. But while Adelaide fans may have long memories, midfielder Scott Thompson says Crows players don't have any special treatment in store for Tippett. "He left here four years ago, didn't he?" Thompson told said. "If you ask the playing group, they couldn't care less. "That was a long time ago but I'm sure the supporters might let him know. We'll wait and see."
Friday, 19 February 2016
Kurt Tippett looks set to finish his career at the Sydney Swans after meeting contract incentives that have extended his tenure at the SCG until the end of 2018. "It's a great result when you put performance-based incentives in contracts and the player activates them. They get rewarded with the security of a couple of extra years and that's been the case with Kurt," Swans football chief Tom Harley said. "His year last year was almost a year of two halves, the back half of the year was really solid and he ended up finishing eighth in the club championship, which was a reflection of how strongly he finished the season. "I think all ruckmen now really need to have at least a couple of strings to their bow. We know that Kurt can play forward and we also know that he can play in the ruck, so we think he's a real asset from that end."

Kurt Tippett says he relishes every game he gets to play these days after persistent knee problems ruined his first two seasons at the Swans. "You have a few dark moments when the body's not cooperating as much as you'd like, but that’s part of it," Tippett said. "There's plenty (of) other guys worse off – you look at other teammates who aren't able to be out there at all, so you've got to be grateful for every game you can get in."
Monday, 20 July 2015
Kurt Tippett could miss up to three weeks of football after breaking his hand during the second quarter of the Swans' 89-point loss to Hawthorn. The former Crow has had a steel plate inserted into his right hand to help speed up his recovery time, but he's set to miss at least a fortnight. "The bloke got a broken hand in the second quarter, he did really well (to keep playing). The doc said he would have subbed him at half-time if there was a player available," Swans coach John Longmire said of Tippett. "The doc told me at our medical meeting that he did a good job to play out the game."
Tuesday, 3 March 2015
Kurt Tippett will not play in the NAB Challenge after suffering a lower leg injury in the Swans' intra-club match. "Kurt has had an outstanding pre-season so we don't expect this setback to significantly impact his readiness for round one," Swans football manager Tom Harley said. "He is likely to sit out our three NAB Challenge matches but at this stage remains on track for round one."
Friday, 6 February 2015
Lance Franklin says a full summer training alongside Swans teammate Kurt Tippett has given the feared duo a better understanding of how each other plays. "I think we've both got that connection where we know where each other is and hopefully that can progress and get better and better and better," Franklin said. "I think it's a bright future for us." Tippett says he concurs with Franklin's assessment of training together. "It's fantastic to train alongside one of the premier players this pre-season, and I'm really enjoying learning off 'Bud'," Tippett said. "You just need to watch the way he goes about it and the energy he brings, then you sit down with him and he's always happy to have a chat about his experiences. "I think we'll continue to build our relationship, and to see him have a full pre-season … it's going to be wild to watch him this year."
Thursday, 5 February 2015
Kurt Tippett says he is ready to banish the "patchy" football that has marked his two years with the Sydney Swans. "I want to build that consistency into my game," Tippett said. "Last year was a little bit disrupted for me with some knee issues, but I'm looking to finish off the pre-season really well with about six weeks to go. "Completing a full pre-season just gives you the confidence to be able to go out there and hopefully play every game."
Tuesday, 8 July 2014
Kurt Tippett frustrating run with the Sydney Swans has continued, with the star key forward to miss another week with ongoing issues surrounding his troublesome knee. "Kurt's not going to play this week," Swans coach John Longmire said. "He's got a little bit of bone inflammation, which is the reason why he's a little bit sore still. "We're hopeful of getting him after the bye."
Saturday, 28 June 2014
Heath Shaw has escaped with only a concussion following an accidental collision with Kurt Tippett in the first quarter of Greater Western Sydney's 46-point loss to the Sydney Swans. Shaw was taken to hospital immediately after leaving the field but he was well enough to be discharged not long after the game finished. The incident occurred when Swans midfielder Ben McGlynn brought the ball out of their defensive 50m and found co-captain Jarrad McVeigh, who spotted Tippett wide open in the forward line. McVeigh's long bomb was perfectly weighted and Tippett took the mark, but a charging Shaw tried to force a contest and ended up getting smashed flush on the jaw by the forward's raised knee. Shaw didn't move after the unfortunate hit and was taken from the ground on a medicab after an awful collision.

Kurt Tippett's stop-start career with the Sydney Swans has continued, with the key forward undergoing knee surgery on Tuesday that will rule him out for the next two weeks. Tippett hurt his left knee during Sunday's victory over Gold Coast and scans have revealed a slight tear to his meniscus. "He's got a slight tear in his meniscus, so he'll have a minor operation today, trim the cartilage up a bit, miss two games and he should be right in three weeks' time," Sydney coach John Longmire said. "He'd been playing well - he was a bit quiet on the weekend, but he'd been playing really well for us and doing a good job. "But if you look at the other results that could've happened, it's not necessarily a bad result."

Big-name recruits Kurt Tippett and Lance Franklin will play together for the first time when the Swans take on the Hawks at ANZ Stadium in round 8.
Tuesday, 22 April 2014
Kurt Tippett's return to senior football with the Sydney Swans will have to wait at least another week after he suffered a cracked rib playing for the reserves. "Our plan was to play Kurt for the first half and he nearly got through unscathed, but unfortunately he copped a knee in a marking contest just before half-time," Swans coach John Longmire said. "Before that he looked in really good touch. He moved well, his marking was good and he was able to boot three goals. "He won't be available for selection this week, but at this early stage we're hopeful that he could be available the following week."
Saturday, 19 April 2014
Kurt Tippett makes his return to football after recovering from knee tendonitis, kicking three goals for Sydney's reserves against Gold Coast.

Joel Tippett may get another AFL chance in rookie draft after being described by his former West Adelaide coach Andrew Collins as the best full-back outside the AFL. "I think he's the best key defender, particularly the best full-back, outside the AFL," Collins said. "He hasn't been beaten by anyone at state level for a couple of years now. "He's tall, strong and athletic and I think he could do a great job on many of the key forwards in the AFL, particularly the low-post key forwards. "I think he would step up to League footy straight away in a really good team."
Thursday, 14 November 2013
New Magpie recruit Jesse White says he was certain he would be headed to Adelaide last year as part of a trade for Kurt Tippett. "I thought it was all rosy. I thought it was all going through. I had signed my half of the deal and it was all looking pretty positive and it came to the deadline of the trade period and it all fell through," White said.
Wednesday, 2 October 2013
Collingwood president lashes out at Sydney's salary cap allowances which has allowed the Swans to sign up two big name forwards in Kurt Tippett and Lance Franklin in the last two years. "Collingwood, the richest club in the AFL, who would love to have another power forward, didn't even contemplate speaking to Lance Franklin because we can't get at these third-party deals because the AFL is all over us," McGuire said. "We do not have a cost of living component. "If two of them (Tippett and Franklin) have got 20 per cent of the salary cap, they're getting 20 per cent of the cost of living. "This is ridiculous. It is a straight-forward rort. This is an ultimate poke in the eye and it's not the Sydney Swans' fault. "Good on them for going as hard as they can. It is yet again the AFL's problem."
Monday, 16 September 2013
Sydney confirm that Kurt Tippett and Tom Mitchell will miss the Swans' preliminary final against Fremantle in Perth due to a strained knee ligament and torn ankle ligaments respectively. "Mitchell is out. He needs an operation," coach John Longmire said. "He's got torn ligaments in his ankle, so he's out for the season. "Tippett won't play this week, he strained a ligament at the top of his fibula, which means he won't play this week as well."
Wednesday, 10 July 2013
With injuries to other key position players, Kieren Jack says the Swans must avoid being too focused on bombing the ball to Kurt Tippett. "It's nice looking up the ground and seeing a big 203cm target you can kick to," Jack said. "We've got to make sure that he's not just the only target down there and we've got some depth in there as well. "We want to make sure we've got a couple of avenues to goal."
Friday, 21 June 2013
Ted Richards is certain a lack of match practice won't be an issue for Kurt Tippett when he lines up for his Sydney Swans debut. "Nothing can replace a game but it's not as if he's coming back from a long-term injury," Richards said. "Even though he hasn't been in the team on the weekend he's been a part of training sessions and match simulations throughout the week. "He's been at every training session since early December and more often than not when it comes to match simulation I'm playing on him so I've probably seen he's been going closer than most."
Sydney coach John Longmire says the club has realistic expectations of Kurt Tippett in his first game for the Swans. "Playing his first game, we don't expect him to set the world on fire; we just expect him to play a role for us," Longmire said. "His expectations from us are just to make sure that he competes. "His fitness is pretty good but we know that he still needs a bit of match conditioning and hopefully he gets that but he's able to help us be competitive at the same time."
Monday, 17 June 2013
Sydney confirms that Kurt Tippett will make his debut as a Swan in round 13 against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium in Adelaide. "I'm really excited about getting out there and doing my bit for the side," Tippett said. "I had a training program written out for me and it was building up to this stage and it's all gone to plan. I'm right where I want to be."
Saturday, 15 June 2013
Kurt Tippett says that repeated concussions and planning for a life after football was one of the primary reasons for choosing to move to the Swans after establishing himself in Adelaide. "You've got to be living a fairly balanced lifestyle because if you're all caught up in football and that's taken away from you, you've got to have something else to go on with," Tippett said. "From that time onwards I was thinking about my future and where it would go and what it would be like. "I wanted to put myself in a spot where I'd feel I'd be most happy and as a result get the most out of myself as an athlete. "That was probably the biggest reason behind my decision.''
Monday, 10 June 2013
A depressed fracture of the cheekbone to ruckman Shane Mumford opens the door for Kurt Tippett to come straight into the Sydney side to face Port Adelaide after serving his suspension. "Obviously with Mummy (Shane Mumford) having to get his cheek bone fixed up there is a spot there,'' Swans coach John Longmire said. "He was a big chance to play anyway. We just have to decide how much game time he plays.''
Wednesday, 5 June 2013
Kurt Tippett still has a week to go before being allowed to play for the Swans, meaning he will not face his former teammates at AAMI Stadium in round 11. "I'm happy that he's not playing because he's such a good player, he can obviously ruck and he's a danger for them up forward," Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson said. "I'd still like him playing in our team but obviously he's not, that ship's sailed. I'm happy that the AFL suspension is for one more week – it's good, worked out well."
Wednesday, 22 May 2013
Kurt Tippett's housemate and teammate Dan Hannebery says the big forward is raring to play for the Swans but must first prove himself of deserving of a place in the side. "He's frustrated, he wants to show what he's capable of and have an impact for the team," Hannebery said. "He still has to prove that he's a valued team member by what he does at training and when he plays. "He has to make sure he plays his role and that's all we're going to be asking of him, to compete and work hard."
Thursday, 16 May 2013
Kurt Tippett says he is working hard to ensure he is ready for his debut as a Swan against Port Adelaide in round 13. "I've seen it (the delayed start to the season) as an opportunity," Tippett said. "It's an opportunity to improve in some areas that can help my football. Being stronger, fitter and faster. "There's light at the end of the tunnel. My selection is up to the coaches, but I'm preparing myself to be able to play at that level. I'm doing everything I can physically and mentally to be right."
Wednesday, 17 April 2013
Having played primarily as a forward in 2013 so far, Adam Goodes says having Kurt Tippett in the side will free him up for a run in the midfield which he is looking forward to. "Definitely I'd love to play more in the midfield," Goodes said. "But our midfield is playing so well and (we have) our keys up forward - myself, Sammy Reid and a ruckman as well. "So until the big fella Kurt Tippett comes in, I'm happy to play that role up forward and pinch-hit in the midfield when they need me."
Monday, 18 March 2013
Nathan Van Berlo signs a three-year deal with the Crows. "It was a no-brainer for me to make the decision to stay. With the direction the club is heading in at the moment, I certainly want to be a part of it and I'm really excited to be here for another three years," van Berlo said about his decision to sign. Van Berlo also takes a swipe at former teammate Kurt Tippett for leaving under controversial circumstances last year. "I guess that was a clear example to the playing group of feelings that occur when you don't want to be a part of the playing group," van Berlo said about Tippett's manner of departure. "It wasn't handled well from his point of view and the players certainly reacted accordingly to that and felt like they were let down. "They've seen ways they shouldn't do it, if they choose to leave our system, but I don't think we'll have that case to deal with any time soon."
Friday, 15 March 2013
After being banned from playing until June 22, Kurt Tippett will instead work on mentoring the Swans' academy's under-16 and under-18 squads. "Being able to help the kids out, particularly the taller boys, really interested me and hopefully I can pass on some knowledge to them," Tippett said. "I've also got a big break at the start of the season before I can play. So it provides a great opportunity to keep my head in the game and keep really sharp. "If I can teach other people the skills then hopefully I am reinforcing them to myself as well. I guess I'm still developing my skills as a coach."
Thursday, 28 February 2013
Blues chief executive Greg Swann says he is bewildered as to how reigning premiers Sydney were able to find room in their salary cap for Kurt Tippett. Carlton, along with Hawthorn, Collingwood and Richmond, will put their case to the AFL at next month's equalisation summit, seeking to end Sydney's 9.8 per cent salary cap advantage. "We are staggered that the premiers can add an $800,000-per-season player (in Tippett) to their list without shedding anyone," Swann said. "The only way they can do that is the allowance and we think it's not right. It's not how the system should work. "If you win a premiership you are supposed to be under pressure to retain players, not bring in the highest-priced recruit there was last year. "They will say they were being clever with the way they used their cap but, whichever way you cut it, to do what they have done puts into question the fairness of the system."

Boom Swans recruit Kurt Tippett gives his team a glimpse of what to expect with a strong showing during an intraclub match. "It was good to see Kurt Tippett have a really good strong hitout and have five or six shots at goal against a quality defence," coach John Longmire said afterwards. "He has to make the most of these opportunities because he hasn't got many games coming up. "It's good to see him get his hands on the footy and have a number of shots at goal and look really sharp. "He's a big target coming out of the goalsquare and for a bit there worked with Sam Reid and I thought the two of them looked pretty good."
Sunday, 3 February 2013
Kurt Tippett says he still has friends in Adelaide and hopes his former teammates can understand his decision to move to Sydney. "I played there for six years and have a lot of good friends in Adelaide whether they be teammates or people outside the football club," Tippett said in a discussion with Neil Cordy. "There was a lot of emotion floating around at that time. It wasn't a perfect situation or a perfect exit from a football club. It's not the way you would like to leave. "But, in moving forward, I don't see why things should change. Friends are friends, teammates are teammates and I think everyone respects and understands why people do certain things, looking after their future and making themselves as happy as they can."
Thursday, 24 January 2013
Kurt Tippett's manager, Peter Blucher, has had his licence to manage AFL players revoked for a minimum of 12 months for his role in the Adelaide Crows salary-cap rorting scandal.
Friday, 21 December 2012
Crows coach Brenton Sanderson says he doesn't understand why Kurt Tippett left for Sydney but says he has moved on from the saga. "I'll certainly shake his hand and wish him good luck," Sanderson said. "We're fine. While a lot of us don't understand the reasons (he left), it's the business and the industry we're in now. I've moved on because these things happen in footy."
Wednesday, 19 December 2012
Sam Reid says he is looking forward to working with Kurt Tippett in Sydney's forward line. "It's exciting to have another big key forward down there," Reid said. "He'll come in half way through the year, which is unfortunate, but I'm looking forward to it."
Thursday, 13 December 2012
Swans co-captain Jarrad McVeigh says boom recruit Kurt Tippett must work hard to establish himself at his new club. "We've got a set of behaviours that we like to live by and we'll go through all that kind of stuff over the next few months," McVeigh said. "All the boys that come through, you want to earn the respect of your peers and that's what you want out of footy. "You do that by training hard, doing all the right things and then when game day comes you look after your mate and if Kurt can do that and the other boys can do that they'll get a game."
Wednesday, 12 December 2012
Sydney recruit Kurt Tippett says he is looking forward to focussing on playing football now after a tumultuous off-season. "It's very exciting to be here in Sydney, after a long off-season, a few little challenges," Tippett said. "I look forward to playing football, settling in, training hard and preparing myself well and earning the guys' trust over the summer. "It's been a challenge for myself and my family but I'm happy to put that all behind me now."

Nick Joyce is a Crow again after Adelaide used pick No. 10 in the NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft to reclaim the midfielder it was forced to delist at the height of the Kurt Tippett saga.
Kurt Tippett completes his long-awaited move to Sydney after being picked up by the Swans with pick 11 in the pre-season draft. "We set out, it seems like a long time ago now, to get Kurt Tippett to our football club," Sydney coach John Longmire said. "To be able to do that today, we're very pleased. "In the end the result for the footy club is we get him through the door and we think he'll be a good footballer for us for a long time."
Wednesday, 5 December 2012
The GWS Giants say they won't select key forward Kurt Tippett in the pre-season draft as his pay demands are too high. "Internally we established a value for Kurt Tippett based on his capabilities and whilst we were hopeful, his terms submitted confirmed that we are simply not in a position to pay what he wants, particularly for a player who will miss most of the year through suspension" Giants' CEO David Matthews said.
The promise of further success will override Swan concerns about Kurt Tippett's hefty salary demands, coach John Longmire says. "When you haven't had access to top 10 draft selections, like we haven't had too much over a long time, it makes it difficult," Longmire said. "You need to keep doing everything right, which we try to do, but if we're able to get a player like Kurt, he could help us be competitive. "Now if we don't get him, we still think we can be competitive, but we have to make sure we continue to do things right all the time."
Tuesday, 4 December 2012
Banned Crows CEO Steven Trigg denies he's a cheat and says Kurt Tippett's illegal contract was due to external pressures imposed on the club at the time. "In terms of did we pay more than we were supposed to in terms of the salary cap? No. Did we really get an advantage in terms of that trade clause in the end? No," Trigg said. "The tabloids will go down a path of using that word (cheat). I just know, I need to look myself in the mirror forever on this ... (I have a) quite really clear conscience. "There were concerns about aspects of it, not necessarily essence of it. It was a deal that was produced under pressure and under real time pressure as well."
The AFLPA is set to appoint an investigator to probe Peter Blucher, Kurt Tippett's manager, following the player's 11-match ban.
Saturday, 1 December 2012
Player agent Peter Blucher faces possible deregistration for his role in the Kurt Tippett saga. There's a broader role here for player agents. They are also culpable. If they want to get involved in anything that is potentially damaging to the integrity of the code, they also want to be on watch, because we won't tolerate it," AFL chief Andrew Demetriou said.

The AFL Commission has suspended Kurt Tippett for 11 home and away games and the NAB Cup, and barred Adelaide from the first two rounds of next season's NAB AFL Draft for draft tampering. Commission chairman Mike Fitzpatrick outlined the sanctions on Friday evening, following a marathon nine-hour hearing at AFL House. Tippett has also been fined $50,000 and the Crows $300,000.
The Sydney Swans say they will still pursue Kurt Tippett despite the fact he has been banned for half a season. Although today's decision is obviously a disappointing setback for Kurt, we have always seen Kurt as a long-term player," Swans football manager Dean Moore said. "And we will go to the pre-season draft with the intention of selecting him if he's available at our pick."
Kurt Tippett has released a statement after the AFL announced he has been banned for 11 games. "I trusted the Adelaide Football Club and for the duration of my contract I did my utmost for the club on and off the field. It is bitterly disappointing, then, to learn that my trust and best endeavours have been to my substantial detriment," Tippett said in the statement. Only during the recent AFL trade period did I learn that some terms in the Adelaide offer may have contravened AFL rules, and since that point I and all parties associated with me have co-operated fully with the AFL in its investigations."
Thursday, 29 November 2012
Adelaide has reportedly confirmed it will not challenge the salary cap cheating allegations involving Kurt Tippett. "We've had some engaging discussions with the AFL, we're contrite and I care about upholding the integrity of the competition as much as anyone,' Crows chairman Rob' Chapman said. "What I want now is to get the right overall outcome for our club. I can't afford to take chances that could harm my club more than it needs to be harmed. "We're ready to face up to it on Friday, minimise the risk to the club and get the best outcome possible because we know that the integrity of the competition is paramount."

Coach Kevin Sheedy says GWS may decide Kurt Tippett isn't worth the price he puts on his head. "Either way if we don't get him, then I hope Sydney do," Sheedy said. "It's great for AFL in Sydney, we want to get a player like that, we need a ruck-forward, that's the way I'm looking at it. "That will complement the height and the structure of the team as we set sail into the next three or four years of where we hope to get to."
Kurt Tippett has delisted himself from the Crows and nominated for the pre-season draft.

The Giants say they will strongly consider picking up Kurt Tippett in the pre-season draft should he become available. "Like everyone we are waiting the outcome of the AFL Commission hearing," a Giants spokesman said. "We also want to see the terms on which Kurt Tippett will nominate for the draft. "We are naturally interested in a player of his calibre but a decision on drafting him will also be determined by affordability and with respect to the process outlined by the AFL."

The dramatic Kurt Tippett salary cap scandal costs the Adelaide Crows powerhouse Glenelg forward Tim O'Brien whom they would have selected with pick 20 had they not given up their first round pick. O'Brien was snapped up by Hawthorn at pick 28 while the Crows had to wait until pick 62 for their first selection which they used on Sam Siggins. "We liked him a lot, along with Sam Siggins" Adelaide recruiting manager Hamish Ogilvie said of O'Brien. "Obviously, the local (O'Brien) would have got the nod if we'd still had pick 20 but they're both quality blokes with great temperaments. "We would have loved to have been in a position to draft Timmy but we weren't, so good luck to the Hawks and we wish Timmy all the best there."

The Age reports on the lucrative offer made by the Swans to Kurt Tippett. The deal is reported to be worth $3.5 million for four years, with a conditional two-year extension for season 2017 and 2018 worth close to another $2 million. Should Tippett become a Swan, he will earn $700,000 for the first year, $900,000 for the second, and $957,000 for 2015 and 2016. If the two-year extension is activated, he would receive just under a $1million for each season.
Beleaguered Adelaide relinquishes its first two picks in Thursday's draft as a 'goodwill gesture' towards resolving the ongoing Kurt Tippett saga. "We see this as a pragmatic gesture made in good faith. It's all about seeking the best overall outcome for the Adelaide Football Club," Crows chairman Rob Chapman said. AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson said the move would work in the Crows' favour. "Absolutely, I think this is definitely something that will be taken into account in Adelaide's favour as an appropriate step should they be found guilty," Anderson said. "I think it's better for the game ... in all the circumstances and they should get credit and will get credit for that."

Kurt Tippett will go down as the greatest villain in the history of the Adelaide Football Club, according to one of his former teammates. "Kurt's name is absolute mud at the footy club," the player, speaking on the condition of anonimity, said. "The playing group cannot believe how badly he has treated them and the club which invested so heavily in him. "First he told us he was leaving via text message, rather than face to face, then he went against his word and demanded a trade to Sydney when all along he had told the club he would only leave if it was to go home to Queensland. "Now he is dragging the club's name through the mud, which has affected the entire playing group."
The AFL has announced that it will hear matters surrounding the Kurt Tippett saga at AFL House on Friday, November 30.

Kurt Tippett's legal team looks at its options after the adjournment of salary cap hearing puts his future in doubt. "I'm disappointed the matter is not going ahead but I can understand why. I'm disappointed because the matter needs to be resolved," Tippett's lawyer, David Galbally QC, said. "This involves very complicated and difficult issues and it can't be prepared overnight."
Thursday, 15 November 2012
Adelaide has sent a letter to its members, saying it is being misrepresented by media reporters and their take on Kurt Tippett's contract. "Throughout the past three years and the recent trading period, it was always the club's intention to comply fully with all AFL rules on the draft and player payments," the letter said. "We look forward to the hearing next Monday and then being able explain directly to you and all our members, sponsors and supporters exactly what happened, why it happened and how it happened."

Adelaide could have had Mitch Clark in a straight swap deal for Kurt Tippett last year if the Crows had put the right offer to him. "Adelaide never came up, never ever came up," Clark's manager Colin Young said. "Mitch would have gone. There's no problems with Adelaide, they're a great club. You wouldn't mind any player going there. "In the end Melbourne's presentation was too good to refuse (but) the Crows could have matched the offer."
Saturday, 10 November 2012
Adelaide Crows were prepared to cash in and trade Kurt Tippett to Brisbane Lions last year for a boom SA youngster and a draft pick. "If Polec or Redden was offered to us then Kurt would probably be a Brisbane player now," said a source from the Crows, speaking on condition of anonymity. "Kurt was under contract at the time but we feared we might lose him at the end of this year anyway so we tried to work what we thought would be a good deal for both clubs. "Jared was certainly keen to come home but unfortunately Brisbane didn't come to the party."
Tuesday, 6 November 2012
Jonathon Patton says he and fellow forward Jeremy Cameron would benefit from having Kurt Tippett at the Giants. "If Kurt came to the Giants it would be awesome for the club," Patton said. "He's hitting his prime and he has already shown what sort of a player he is. If he comes here, Jeremy and I will be looking forward to working with him in the forward line."

Brisbane coach Michael Voss says the club has largely moved on from pursuing Kurt Tippett. "We're planning [next week's training camp in] Arizona, we're planning pre-season, we've been more than happy with the progress of our players," he said. "Our list is coming together pretty well. We participated in the trade and got what we wanted and now we move on. Our planning is now well and truly into the 2013 season."
Thursday, 1 November 2012
GWS confirms it may make a play for Kurt Tippett after Israel Folau quit the club on Thursday. "We've still got to work out what that means and what are the terms and conditions in which he might enter one of the drafts," GWS chief executive Dave Matthews said. "So the next couple of weeks Gubby Allan and Steve Silvagni will work with the coaches to do their due diligence on him, but we're certainly in there for Kurt Tippett."
Monday, 29 October 2012
GWS has confirmed it will take Kurt Tippett in the national or pre-season draft if it can afford him. "Now that it looks like Kurt Tippett is into one of the next couple of drafts clearly it means he is someone we should be discussing. We did that today, we had a football sub-committee and Sheeds was in that. He was the subject of plenty of discussons," Giants CEO Dave Matthews said.

A leading Victorian Barrister says the AFL is risking legal action if Kurt Tippett is deregistered as a player. "It's a very serious matter to take a professional athlete's ability to earn a living away from him because of a breach of a policy which prima facie is unlawful because it's in restraint of trade," Victorian QC Paul Ehrlich said. "It'd then be for the AFL to justify that that policy was necessary for the preservation of the game. I don't know any lawyers that take the view that the AFL restraint would survive a challenge in the courts."
Friday, 26 October 2012
Adelaide had little chance of finding Kurt Tippett a new home by the end of the trade deadline after the AFL confirmed it would not accept a trade in line with the one under investigation. "Once Kurt nominated the Swans as his preferred club, we entered the trade period with the intention of securing a suitable trade," Swans CEO Andrew Ireland said. "Our position on Kurt has not changed, and pending the outcome of the AFL's current investigation, we remain committed to recruiting Kurt for the 2013 season." The AFL is investigating an additional $200,000 reported to have been paid to Tippett by the Crows outside of his playing contract.
Adelaide insists it went to the AFL and revealed all the details of the Kurt Tippett contract, as investigators move in. "We are the ones who initiated the investigation and we are the ones who brought on this extra examination," Crows CEO Steven Trigg said. "The extra examination is really because what this whole situation throws up is doubt and we want to eliminate doubt. "We've invited the AFL to send in their forensic guys, work through the whole lot and make sure, so that at the end of it we can sit there and we can say, 'right, everything's clear'."
The AFL Players' union says it is disappointed at how the Kurt Tippett saga has unfolded. Whilst we understand the gravity of the allegations being investigated by the AFL, and respect the AFL's role, it's incredibly disappointing that Kurt Tippett hasn't been able to secure a trade today," AFLPA Player Relations Manager Ian Prendergast said. "Particularly given that for the past three years the player has been of the understanding that the club had committed to a trade happening."
Thursday, 25 October 2012
Adelaide chairman Rob Chapman confesses to a secret, and potentially inappropriate, deal with Kurt Tippett and says the club will cop any penalty the AFL deems appropriate. "It was the right thing to do ... there was no alternative here," Chapman told Adelaide radio station 5AA about coming clean to the AFL. "We will take whatever comes out of it."
Wednesday, 24 October 2012

Discussions between Adelaide and Sydney remain stalled as Crows list manager David Noble says the club is exploring all options in return for Kurt Tippett. "What we are working towards is the best goddamn deal we can get for our club," Noble said.
Thursday, 18 October 2012
As Kurt Tippett's move to Sydney is hours away from being sealed, media commentators criticize the rumoured swap of Jesse White and the Swans' pick 22 as being largely inadequate for the Crows. "Adelaide will be ripped off,'' Wallace said on AFL Trade Radio. "Adelaide wants to be seen as a strong club, but it has shown no strength - it has been led by the nose in negotiations," inaugural Crows coach Graham Cornes said on Radio FIVEaa. "They should stand firm and have Tippett go to the draft rather than roll over."
Tuesday, 16 October 2012
GWS enter the race for Kurt Tippett after trade talks between Adelaide Crows and Sydney Swans appear to have stalled. "Where it stands at the minute is the Crows are in discussions with the Swans," Giants list manager Stephen Silvagni said. "They're trying to get the deal done. We've inquired about Kurt Tippett to Adelaide and if the Swans deal falls through we're around."
Monday, 15 October 2012
Gold Coast has 'moved on' from trying to lure Kurt Tippett, even if no agreement is reached between the Crows and Swans. "His decision has been made. We respect that and we move on with what we need to do," Suns football manager Marcus Ashcroft said. "We have some priorities of our own that we need to achieve."
Sunday, 14 October 2012
Adelaide says they may dump key forward Kurt Tippett to the national or pre-season draft if no deal can be reached with Sydney. "We've got rid of a bloke who doesn't want to be at the footy club; that's already a win," Crows list manager David Noble said. "It would be bad luck and it would be an unfortunate situation. But that can happen."
Saturday, 13 October 2012
Former Crows recruiting boss Matt Rendell says Shaun McKernan is more than capable of filling Kurt Tippett's role at the Crows. "I've been saying for two years that if McKernan plays in Tippett's spot he might be of more value," Rendell said. "He won't miss the sitters, he'll kick them (goals) from outside 50 and he'll get the ones on the ground. "And he's a better ruckman than Kurt, too, because he can move around the ground better."
Thursday, 11 October 2012
Adelaide player Josh Jenkins says most Crows players are disappointed with the way Kurt Tippett has left the club. "I couldn't imagine spending several years at the one club, only to leave and burn almost all the bridges that had been built over the years," Jenkins wrote in a column for the Adelaide Advertiser. "I am not saying Kurt no longer has friends or positive relationships at the Crows. But most from West Lakes would have some right to be disappointed in his actions."
Monday, 8 October 2012
Brisbane Lions chairman Angus Johnson says his club feels restricted without the salary cap concessions that Sydney receive after the Swans secured the services of Kurt Tippett with a superior offer. "If anyone had reason to complain about Sydney's salary cap relief it would be the Brisbane Lions. We put a good offer to a player who wanted to come home (Tippett) but obviously money speaks volumes," Johnson said. "We are the only club in the emerging states that doesn't receive salary cap relief and we sometimes feel we are operating with one hand tied behind our back."
Adelaide will chase the "best commercial deal" for Kurt Tippett, rejecting any talk of a "gentleman's agreement" that would allow the key forward to walk to the Swans for only a second round draft pick. "That was three years ago...and some people have selective memories," Adelaide Crows chairman Rob Chapman said. Chapman also questioned the salary cap concessions that allowed the Swans to put up big money to lure Tippett to Sydney. "It was a great idea at the start to give Sydney that extra assistance that was required (to lure players to the Swans from traditional markets)," Chapman said. "But when the Swans have just won a premiership and allegedly can offer $1 million to entice a player such as Kurt Tippett to their club, I'd say the model is not right for today."
Sydney chief executive Andrew Ireland says no "gentleman's agreement" between Adelaide and Kurt Tippett would be influencing ongoing discussions between the Swans and the Crows. "People keep talking about an agreement - to my knowledge there isn't any agreement in his contract that says that he must be traded for a certain amount [of compensation]," Ireland said. "The only thing I would say is we've got a history of being able to finalise deals. We're hopeful that we can do that again."
Sunday, 7 October 2012
Former Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett calls on the AFL to immediately revoke Sydney's salary cap concessions after the Swans splurged on a four-year deal believed to be worth up to $4 million to lure Kurt Tippett to the club. "Sydney should no longer be treated any differently to the other established clubs," Kennett said. "It was never meant to be set up for all time, but it has become ingrained."
Saturday, 6 October 2012
Kurt Tippett has dropped a footy bombshell, saying he wants a move to Sydney instead of returning home to Queensland. "It would have been easy to accept a generous five-year offer to stay in Adelaide, or something similar from the Gold Coast or Brisbane, and I also want to thank those clubs for their interest," Tippett said. "But this was a combined football/lifestyle decision and the balance between the two. I was born in Sydney, I have a lot of friends and family there, and this offers me a chance to play football in a lifestyle, which I really enjoy."
Scott Thompson says he never thought Kurt Tippett would stay a Crow. "I had convinced myself that he wasn't going to be here, purely [on] the fact that he hadn't signed," Thompson said. "If he wanted to be here, with the ups and downs he's had this year with concussions and what not, if he wanted to stay he would have signed a long time ago. "The fact that he didn't, I pretty much got my head around the fact that he was leaving, that's proven to be the case."
Kurt Tippett's manager Peter Blucher says the Swans moved quickly on his client after their 2012 premiership to secure his services. "Andrew Ireland and John Longmire interrupted their premiership celebrations to go to the Gold Coast and see Kurt and his parents and we had a long, detailed and outstanding conversation," Blucher said. "Kurt went away surfing for a few days, came back yesterday and said, 'Bingo'."
Kurt Tippett's manager Peter Blucher calls on Adelaide to honour a 'gentlemen's agreement' and ensure his client gets to the Swans. "There is a commitment by the club to Kurt to help get him to the club of his choice and that's what we'll be asking them to do, as per the commitment they've given him," Blucher said on Melbourne radio station SEN. "[Adelaide chief executive] Steven Trigg and [football manager] Phil Harper are people of the utmost integrity, it's certainly not for me to question that, so we'd be very comfortable and confident that that deal will get done."
Friday, 5 October 2012
The Brisbane Lions won't be making any trade moves until Kurt Tippett decides where he will play in 2013. "They're a rare commodity and important to the way teams structure their forward lines. Game-plans are built around them," Lions list manager Robert Kerr said about Tippett's ability as a forward/ruckman.
Thursday, 4 October 2012
Gold Coast wants Kurt Tippett but will not use SA youngsters Sam Day or Daniel Gorringe as bargaining chips with Adelaide. "We've always spoken about not wanting to compromise the growth of our young list. We want to make sure that we keep our young players together for as long as we can and we don't want to compromise that," Gold Coast football manager Marcus Ashcroft said. "We'll look at options to make sure that we get a good player like Kurt into the side, but not to the detriment of breaking up our young talent."
The Brisbane Lions say they will target Brent Moloney or Clinton Young if their bid for Kurt Tippett fails. "We would like to bring one mature body to the group. If it doesn't go our way with Kurt, we'll reassess our position," Lions national talent manager Rob Kerr said. "If that's the path we go down, we'll certainly revisit it and have a look at Brent or a Clinton Young for example. "They're the type of players we'd have to look at. The added attraction is they're free agents and don't cost you a draft pick."
Kurt Tippett receives what appears to be death threats on twitter. "If you don't go to Gold Coast I will look for you. I will find you. And I will kill you," a person tweeted. The same person later tweets that the 'death threat' was in fact a parody of a quote by Liam Neeson from the movie Taken. "lol at Rucci's article about death threats to @KurtTippett4 my tweet is a quote from the movie Taken which was tongue & cheek #cantbeserious," he later tweeted.

Carlton coach Mick Malthouse says the Blues will approach Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett who has quit the club. "Of course I'm going to get involved … of course I would," Malthouse said when asked whether he would be interested in Tippett. "Tippett, [if] he wants to go to Melbourne, guess what? Carlton will put their hand up for him."
Kurt Tippett's is denied a seat at the club's best and fairest after announcing his decision to quit the club. "Kurt wanted to go to the count and say thank you," Tippett's Brisbane-based manager Peter Blucher said. "He's come to the realisation that is not going to happen. That's sad because for six years Kurt has given his heart and soul and loved every minute of being at the footy club." Crows chairman Rob Chapman says Tippett's actions over the last few days has not been well received by the club. "We have bent over backwards for this guy," Chapman said. "If he wanted to go home, I get it. If he wanted to go back to his family, I get it. "But to now tell us that he wants to leave Adelaide to go to another club, that grates on me at the moment."
Tuesday, 2 October 2012
Key forward Kurt Tippett has told Adelaide he wants a trade to another undisclosed club.
Defecting key forward Kurt Tippett tells his former Adelaide Crows teammates of his decision to quit in a text message. "Boys, this morning, I have told the club that I won't be renewing my contract for 2013," Tippett texted. "Making my decision has been one of the toughest processes I have ever been through. "I have asked the club to shoot through an email to you all but in case it doesn't get through I want to thank you for your support and friendship over the past six years. "Have absolutely loved playing alongside you all. "You are all friends for life! I'll be in touch. Love KT."
Collingwood says rumours linking it with former Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett did not emanate from the club.
Thursday, 27 September 2012
Key forward Kurt Tippett remains undecided about his AFL future after a debrief with Adelaide Crows coach Brenton Sanderson and will return to the Gold Coast for the weekend to make what he says will be an "unemotional" decision.
Wednesday, 26 September 2012
Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson says he believes Kurt Tippett will remain with the Crows. "You sort of scratch your head if a player wants to leave that environment, especially with the potential success that we're going to have over the next couple of years," told SEN radio. "I'd be surprised if he wanted to leave. I guess my gut feel is that he'll stay, but you never know."
Tuesday, 25 September 2012
Wantaway forward Kurt Tippett faces a financial versus family decision with three clubs including Adelaide, Brisbane and Gold Coast locked in a battle for his signature. Adelaide have reportedly offered Tippett $800,000 a season to stay with the club.
Monday, 24 September 2012
Adelaide says it has done all it can to convince Kurt Tippett to stay - the rest is up to him. "Obviously there will be conversations with the boys no doubt throughout this week," Adelaide captain Nathan van Berlo said. "I talk to him as a captain and as a mate, so we'll certainly have a chat at some point and at the end of the day it's going to be his decision, but it's one that we'll know we've done everything as a club and as teammates to make him want to stay."
Sunday, 23 September 2012
After being quiet the Crows' first two finals for the year, Kurt Tippett dominates with 11 marks and 4 goals in a preliminary final loss to Hawthorn but his future at the cloud remains clouded. "It's probably too early to call on that one," Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson said. "urt's game today was exceptional, he got us away with that great start and gee, he tried his heart out for the footy club. "That (the future) will take care of itself now, that will be the speculation for him and the club over the next few weeks."
Saturday, 15 September 2012
Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson says star forward Kurt Tippett has not been playing to the standard the Crows require in their qualifying and semi final games against Sydney and Fremantle respectively. He is below his best and he'd be the first to admit that," Sanderson said. "Tippo played his role, probably not to the standard we need him too. But he's a very proud player and I'm sure we'll see a much better effort from him next week."
Thursday, 13 September 2012
Former Adelaide recruiting chief Matthew Rendell says the Crows recruited Josh Jenkins on the possibility of Kurt Tippett leaving the club. "What we did last year, thinking he (Tippett) might go at the end of this year was to go and source another ruckman, that's why we went after Josh Jenkins," Rendell said. "We wanted to at least have a back-up who could play in the ruck and play forward. I didn't want to get into the situation of thinking `geez, he's gone, what are we going to do' and get into panic mode a little bit."
Adelaide assistant Scott Camporeale says Kurt Tippett's place in the Crows side against Fremantle in their semi final is secure despite the big forward being in average form. "He's under no selection pressure at all. He's a key to the way we structure up," Camporeale said. "He hasn't had a great four or five weeks. But he's really important to the way we play and takes up a tall defender which in turn, frees up another tall forward."
Monday, 20 August 2012
Adelaide has postponed contract discussions with forward Kurt Tippett until the end of the season. "The Adelaide Football Club had an exceptional offer in front of Kurt - and Kurt and his management acknowledge this - but Kurt has made it clear he will not make any decision until the season is finished," Adelaide football operations manager Phil Harper said in a club statement. "He wants to focus solely on performing on-field to the best of his ability before considering his future later in the year, and to ensure that the matter does not became a distraction to him or anyone at the club in the lead-up to and during the finals. "Therefore the club and Kurt's management have agreed to resume discussions at season's end."
Wednesday, 15 August 2012
Brenton Sanderson says Kurt Tippett will play finals football if he is fit and his teammates want him to even if the big forward declares he will leave at the end of the year. "Finals are obviously cut-throat and we want to pick our best team, from a selfish point of view we want to win and you've got to put your best 22 out there," Sanderson said. "If it's not a distraction for the team then we'll certainly pick him."
Lions vice-captain Tom Rockcliff and Suns defender Campbell Brown both say Kurt Tippett would be a good fit at their clubs. "Obviously it'd be great to have him up here, but there's a lot of water to go under the bridge before that happens," Rockliff said. "Browny's not going to be around forever and we do need to replace him somewhere along the way. We do have some good young kids coming through but we probably do need an older body up there to help them out." "Being from the Gold Coast and having a brother (Joel) play here last year … if he decides to come to the Suns we'd be more than happy," Brown said. "I know a few boys know his brother very well and they've obviously met him a few times and seen him floating around down here. Big power forwards, they're hard to come by in the AFL and he'd be fantastic."
Adelaide Crows coach Brenton Sanderson says Kurt Tippett should inform the club about whether he intends to stay or leave at the end of the year. "If he wants to leave he should tell us and then we can get on with finding replacements," Sanderson said. "If he hasn't made his mind up then that's his call, that's his decision. We'd love for him to stay but at the same time we've got to look what else is available to us."
Tuesday, 14 August 2012
Former Adelaide captain Mark Ricciuto says he is almost certain Kurt Tippett will be leaving the club at the end of the season. "If he wanted to stay in Adelaide, had a five-year deal on the table for big money (in the vicinity of $3 million to $3.5 million) and had just suffered three serious concussions, why wouldn't he sign?" Ricciuto asked in a column for News Limited. "He'd be putting pen to paper as quickly as he could. Even if he did not have the concussions, why wouldn't he be signing? "If it was over money, he would have been asking for more, but he hasn't. He has put it on hold."
Daniel Merrett says Kurt Tippett would be a "very handy" acquisition for the Brisbane if the Lions managed to sign the big Crow forward. "Anyone of that talent in your team would be great. They are very rare," Merrett said. "Particularly in Tippett's case - a forward who can play in the ruck are hard to come by."

Nathan van Berlo says he remains confident Kurt Tippett will remain at the club. "I know 'Tippo' is thoroughly enjoying himself at the moment, with the environment we've got at the footy club and I've got every confidence that he'll want to be apart of us moving forward," van Berlo said. "We don't talk about it (Tippett's contract negotiations) at all in the inner-sanctum, it's a matter of everyone's got contracts and everyone's got to deal with it themselves and we leave it to the individual to do it."
Kurt Tippett was withdrawn from Adelaide's team to face Freo amid concerns he has yet to overcome concussion. "While Kurt has trained extremely well in the past two weeks, and feels 100 per cent well, the club doctor is yet to be convinced that his recovery is fully complete, based on a variety of tests," Crows football manager Phil Harper said. "Club doctor Andrew Potter would like to reiterate that all the testing has cleared Kurt of any long-term effects on his health. "While this may be considered a conservative approach from the outside, the club is determined to continue to put Kurt's health as its prime consideration."

Adelaide has made a bid for Travis Cloke's services, raising speculation about key forward Kurt Tippett's future. "It's a contingency plan for us so we have to ask the question, and do due diligence," Adelaide football operations manager Phil Harper told News Limited. "We fully expect Kurt to stay, we are confident he will stay, but football shows that we are entering a new age. If Kurt does leave, we as a footy club have to be aware of who is available via free agency. "And we all know Travis Cloke is probably what we would need."
Wednesday, 8 August 2012
Adelaide Crows set to ramp up contract negotiations with Kurt Tippett's management, now that he's on the verge of AFL return after recovering from concussion issues. "We haven't really spoken to him about it (contract) during his concussions," Adelaide operations manager Phil Harper said. "But now that's going all right, we'll put some more emphasis on what's going on with the contract and see what they (Tippett's management) come up with."

Crows coach Brenton Sanderson says Kurt Tippett is not yet ready to resume football after repeated concussions. "It would have been foolish to play him this week, so we'll give it another few days and I'm sure he'll be up and about the week after," Sanderson said. "We'll certainly be comfortable that when we pass him fit to play and when Kurt's comfortable to play, we're confident that he'll go out and play footy just like he did prior to the concussions."
Friday, 27 July 2012
The AFL Medical Officers Association (AFLMOA) says there is no blanket rule to suggest any specific amount of rest time required for three concussions as is the case for Kurt Tippett. "The current evidence on concussion management and outcomes indicate that the concussion response is different in different individuals. Therefore, tailoring management on a case-by-case basis is imperative, with the over-riding principle being that no player returns to play until fully recovered," a statement from the AFLMOA said. "The case of Kurt Tippett has been professionally handled by the club and sends a clear message to the community that concussion is a serious issue that should be managed conservatively."
Wednesday, 25 July 2012
After three recent concussions, Kurt Tippett won't play against the Cats but will head home to Queensland for some rest instead. "We won't rush the player and, in consultation with the experts, we'll make the right decision for us," Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson said. "I think it was pretty easy to call, he's going to get some more testing done in the next few days and, regardless of what that shows, we won't play him this weekend. "We're going to send him home for a couple of days over the weekend but we expect him to resume training next Monday if all the tests get through OK."
Tuesday, 24 July 2012
Port Adelaide's Tom Logan says Kurt Tippett is the only one who will know when he is right to play after the Crow forward sustained 3 concussions in just 5 weeks. "Head knocks are always dangerous and he probably knows more than anyone how he feels and if he should play or not," Logan said. "There's been times in my career when I've probably copped bigger knocks and felt OK…and other times I've copped a knock that's not as big and ruled myself out. "He'll go out during the week at training and see how he feels and I think that's more important."
Adelaide Crows key forward Kurt Tippett will consult the same medical expert who advised former teammate Scott Stevens to quit. "Everything we do with Kurt will be based on his welfare," Crows doctor Andrew Potter said. "That is not just for now, but to make sure he does not run into problems later on. Every decision we make will be conservative - and I am comfortable with that."
Monday, 23 July 2012
Brent Reilly denies teammate Kurt Tippett has developed a susceptibility to concussions. "He's pulled up OK, obviously three concussions is not ideal in the last four weeks but he's in good hands with the docs," Reilly said. "If you look at all the hits, it's a bit unlucky, you go through those stages in your career where you might get injured and unfortunately he's had three knocks to the head. "Who knows what's going to happen but he'll do all the testing and hopefully he's available to play this week."
Saturday, 21 July 2012
Crows forward Kurt Tippett has been subbed off after suffering a third head knock in five weeks. "Kurt's had no concussions in his life and he's had three in (five) weeks ... [it's] unlucky, as pure as that," Brenton Sanderson said after the game. "We're not going to risk Kurt, if he's not right to play we won't play him, as simple as that."

Star Adelaide Crows forward Kurt Tippett says he won't let his contract talks become a distraction as his side's premiership tilt gets serious. "I'm not looking to cause any distractions to the football club, or myself or my teammates," Tippett said. "The contract negotiations are where they should be. I trust my management to sort that out with the football club and to come to me at the right time."
Wednesday, 18 July 2012
Brenton Sanderson says Kurt Tippett's ongoing contract negotiations won't affect the Crows as they push towards September. "We're quietly confident that Kurt's going to re-sign for us," Sanderson said. "I know that the longer it drags out, the more it becomes a story. Internally it's no distraction for us, but it does create some interest outside of the footy club."
Thursday, 21 June 2012
The Brisbane Lions are set to try to lure Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett back to Queensland. "My understanding is he's really enjoying his footy in Adelaide this year with a new coach and they're going very, very well," Lions football manager Dean Warren said. "If we get to the end of the year [and he's still not signed] we'd certainly be asking questions come trade week again whether he'd be interested in coming to our footy club."
Friday, 1 June 2012
Essendon forward Michael Hurley wants to emulate the contested marking power of Travis Cloke and Kurt Tippett. "I envy the way they're able to take contested marks," Hurley says. "For some players the marking just happens naturally, but as I said earlier it's about me thinking through things more and not just being as aggressive in the way I sometimes approach the ball."
Wednesday, 30 May 2012
Brenton Sanderson says the Crows' "environment of success" will be key in convincing Kurt Tippett to stay with the Crows. "Our message to Kurt is that we're going to have a long, sustained future at this footy club and he's going to enjoy playing his footy here," he said. "We won't force him or hold a gun to his head, he can make his own decisions, but you speak to most of the players and you can see they're enjoying their footy."
Thursday, 17 May 2012
Nathan van Berlo is confident out-of-contract stars Patrick Dangerfield and Kurt Tippett will stay at Adelaide. "I've got every confidence in those two that they're pretty keen to stay around the footy club and hang around for some success in the future," van Berlo told 3AW on Wednesday night. "There's been a lot of speculation but we've been working hard over pre-season in establishing not only a consistent game plan, but a culture that hopefully the boys want to be a part of - not only (for) those two but also the rest of the young guys we've got from interstate."
Wednesday, 9 May 2012
Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson says key forward Kurt Tippett should make it more obvious to the umpires when he's manhandled. "Quite often he gets his arms chopped, but he hasn't quite learned that art yet of, you see those guys who fling their bodies back or they pull an arm back, but he just plays the ball every time," Sanderson said. "The umpire should just pay them ... [but] sometimes he's probably got to learn how to make the umpires aware that he's getting scragged or taken high."
Wednesday, 2 May 2012
Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson says the club would be devastated to lose out-of-contract young stars Kurt Tippett and Patrick Dangerfield in free agency. "If they both left it'd be shattering for the footy club, we'd have to start again in some areas. "It'd be very important for them both to stay," Sanderson said. "Any young player at the footy club, they just want to see that we're providing a platform to improve and be at a club that's consistently involved in playing finals footy. Hopefully that's the path that we're taking."
Sunday, 22 April 2012
Kevin Sheedy says Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett will be as good as Essendon great Paul Salmon after the key forward tallied 17 disposals and 4 goals against GWS. "I've got no doubt that Tippett will be as good as Salmon," Sheedy said. "Paul Salmon was an absolute marvelous player, I think he might have kicked over 500 goals, if you can keep [Tippett] in Adelaide, which I'd advise you to do, you'll enjoy the journey."
Wednesday, 18 April 2012
Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson keeps the faith with under-fire Kurt Tippett after the wayward forward missed several shots on goal against Hawthorn. "I think he's going to have a game soon where he kicks seven or eight straight," Sanderson said. "Hopefully it's this week, next week would be even better, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he has one of those games when he just hits them all."
Monday, 2 April 2012
Adelaide midfielder Scott Thompson says he cannot guarantee that forward Kurt Tippett will stick with the Crows. "We can tell him we want him to stay as much as we want but if he wants to go, he'll go," Thompson said. "I can't answer that question whether he will stay or go but obviously we'd love to have him here for the rest of his career because he is going to be such a great player."
Saturday, 31 March 2012
Brenton Sanderson has backed Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett to have a monster 2012 season. "He's had a good summer and hasn't missed a session really," Sanderson said. But we are quite clear - Kurt Tippett is not up for trade," Noble said.

That's absolutely crystal clear," Trigg said. "I haven't and our club hasn't surrendered to this notion of Kurt going. We're working on having him enjoy the environment, a successful environment and [having him] want to stay like every other player."
Friday, 12 August 2011
Adelaide big man Kurt Tippett will honour his contract with the Crows, but hasn't ruled out a return to Gold Coast in the future. "I'm not going to deny I'm a beach boy at heart … I do get homesick at times and at some stage during my life I think I will return to the Gold Coast," Tippett said in a video posted on the Adelaide Crows website. "But the Adelaide Crows have been fantastic to me right from the day I was drafted back in 2006. They gave me a chance and have always done the right thing by me. It is certainly my intention that I will do likewise in return."

A shoulder injury to Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett has compounded the pain of Saturday's 39-point loss to West Coast at AAMI Stadium. "The squad that we had at the start of the year is becoming depleted," Adelaide coach Neil Craig said. "It will be a really testing time for our footy club because we can't keep getting injuries like that. "Does Kurt Tippett make our forward line look bigger and stronger? Of course he does, but if he's not there we're going to have to think it through and pick someone to play there."

"My goalkicking is a work in progress and something that I'm very aware of," Tippett said. "I've got to get my body right and give myself the best chance to kick the goals. My technique is always evolving. It's changed every year, so I need to settle on something and get that set in stone. I don't think it'll be too hard to do...I'll just need to kick thousands of balls over the summer."

Adelaide coach Neil Craig says he appreciates forward Kurt Tippett's decision to sign with the club early to avoid any distractions during the season as has been the case for Geelong with Gary Ablett Jr. "The innuendo can be divisive," Craig said. "We don't want an environment where it is unknown. I don't think it is good for individual players to put themselves into that situation."
Monday, 22 March 2010
Crows captain Simon Goodwin believes young players Kurt Tippett and Patrick Dangerfield will be the big improvers for the club in 2010. "He is certainly fantastic at ground level and the pressure he can put on the opposition with his presence is enormous. He understands the game a bit better -- he comes from a basketball background -- and he is understanding the game more and more each year and he is only going to get better," Goodwin said of Tippett. "The challenge for Patty is his ability to link up across the ground and he has got himself in really good physical shape to be able to do that. It is exciting for Patty," Goodwin said about Dangerfield. "He is now in the elite runners at the footy club and it has enabled him to do that and now it is up to Patty to be that player in the midfield to earn 25 to 30 possessions a week."

"Once all that's on the table, then hopefully Kurt says, `Let's go', whether it's for another one, two or three years. "In the end Kurt will make that decision, but I hope he stays because he's going to be a fantastic player for us. And I know our supporters would love him to stay because they can sort of predict, if he continues to improve, what sort of player he can be."
Tuesday, 8 September 2009
Adelaide football manager John Reid is quietly confident forward Kurt Tippett will resist the lure of returning home to the Gold Coast despite constant media speculation on the key forward's future at the club. "Kurt seems very happy here. He's a major player in our football club and will be for some years to come. I can't give you a definite answer. I'd love to be able to, but we'll work that out at the end of the season," Reid said.

Adelaide coach Neil Craig says the club will make a competitive offer to prevent emerging forward Kurt Tippett returning to Queensland. "From a financial point of view, (football operations manager) John Reid will make a realistic and competitive offer without us selling our soul because we can't do that and we won't do that," Craig said. "All we can do is provide an environment that hopefully Kurt thinks will be conducive for him to play his best football in from a coaching perspective, a resource and a cultural point of view as well."

Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett is reaping the rewards of a new game-plan and plenty of practice in front of the goal posts after kicking seven goals against Essendon. "It was certainly my best return in terms of goals, I'm not sure if it was my best game, but I'm pretty happy to kick a few goals," Tippett said. "The first couple of shots are really important for your confidence. We've been doing a lot of work on our goal kicking so I have been feeling a lot more confident in front of goals, but it was great to put that on the score board today. "There have been a fair few kicks over the summer, some good coaching from the guys as well as the help of the fellas out there kicking them back to me at training. All of that really paid off today."
