Alwyn Davey Biography

Wednesday, 30 October 2013

Essendon cut Alwyn Davey after 100 games for the club.

As a highly respected member of the Essendon playing group it's sad to see 'Froggy' depart the club," Essendon list manager Adrian Dodoro said.

"Unfortunately at this time of year we have to make tough decisions about our playing list and this is one of them.

"To play 100 games and kick 120 goals over seven seasons as a small forward is a terrific effort and we wish Alwyn and his young family all the best for the future."

Alwyn Davey subbed out of the game against Richmond with a hamstring injury, taking Essendon's tally of soft-tissue injuries for 2012 to 18.

Essendon's Alwyn Davey has rediscovered his confidence after a third broken arm in 2011 floored him physically and mentally.

"I think last year I was probably too inconsistent with my performance," Davey said.

"The injury made it worse and set me back heaps with my confidence, and I just wasn't enjoying my footy. My mind wasn't straight and I wasn't playing good footy.

"You worry about whether you're going to be playing the next week. So to have that in your mind isn't not a good feeling."

Essendon's impressive start under James Hird has suffered a blow with speedy forward Alwyn Davey breaking his arm.

"Alwyn suffered a knock very, very late in the game against Melbourne last week which caused him a little bit of soreness post-match before scans later revealed a small fracture," general manager of football operations Paul Hamilton said.

"It is disappointing for Alwyn and the club because he has had a very good pre-season so far.

Essendon's Alwyn Davey has broken both bones in his arm and will miss the remainder of the season.

"Alwyn had it confirmed last night that both his bones have cracks in them," Bombers football manager Paul Hamilton said.

"The next step will be to see the specialist to determine whether he will need a plate or whether we will put it in plaster and let it heal naturally, because there hasn't been a displacement.

"The specialist will determine what the further action is and we will know from there."

Alwyn Davey says improving his fitness will help with his consistency in 2010.

"I dropped off in the second half of the year in some games, so it would be good to get that right," Davey said.

"I'm hungry to improve more and more every year and that means being more consistent with my game."

Scans reveal Essendon's Alwyn Davey will miss two to four weeks after MRI scans on Monday revealed damage to his AC joint.

"The results confirmed that Alwyn has a grade three injury to his shoulder which is fairly severe," Essendon football operations manager Paul Hamilton said.

"There is very little he can do other than rest over the first couple of days. He is very sore and can't lift his arm up at this stage so we will give him a period of rest.

"Once it is rested up and the swelling has gone down, we will start working on some basic movement patterns and build it up from there."

Being run down by Alwyn Davey in last Friday night's 43-point loss was all part of Jack Watts' steep learning curve.

Describing Davey as "a little lightning bolt", Watts said of the incident: "I looked behind me and I thought I had 10 metres and before I knew it I was on the deck."

"I'm still learning, having only played two games, so I still have plenty of learning to do," Watts told BigPond Sports Weekend.

"I've got to learn from that and pick up the pace. Hopefully, in the next few weeks I won't make that same mistake again."
