As Essendon becomes embroiled in a doping scandal, former player Mark McVeigh hits back at former teammate Kyle Reimers who earlier claimed that Bombers players were "right on the edge" when it came to taking performance-enhancing supplements.

"He's a disgruntled player who was delisted from the football club, who very rarely turned up to pre-season training in any sort of form that resembled a professional footballer," McVeigh said.

"Every player knew what we were taking ... if you didn't know, you must have been asleep in the meeting, which Kyle probably was.

"Everything that I took, and I can only speak on my behalf obviously, I knew 100 per cent that it was within the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) and AFL doping regulations.''

As a doping scandal engulfs Essendon, former Bomber Kyle Reimers admits that players were informed by the club that supplements provided to them were on the border of being prohibited.

"They gave a brief outline but never really went into too much detail about it," Reimers said.

"They admitted to it [saying] it was right on the edge. After a couple of months away from it (the club), it does seem very odd the type of stuff we were taking."

Axed Bomber Kyle Reimers has knocked back a chance of a rookie list spot with Carlton, preferring instead to play with his old WAFL club, Peel Thunder.

"Carlton were good enough to ask whether Kyle would commit to train up until the draft, with the possibility of finding a home there," Reimers' manager Alex McDonald said.

"Kyle, at this point in his career, can't make the commitment to the level of an AFL career. It looks like he will hopefully reignite his career with Peel with a view to making his way back to the AFL."

Carlton has denied former Bomber Kyle Reimers is training at the club, despite his name appearing on the recently updated 'permission to train' list.

Carlton says it may give delisted Essendon forward Kyle Reimers a second chance.

''We just wanted to see where he was at, whether he had ambition to continue his career, and where he saw himself,'' Carlton football manager Andrew McKay said.

''So I suppose we have a little bit of interest in him, but not at the expense of the young talent we are looking at.

"

Former Bomber Kyle Reimers says Essendon's brutal 2012 pre-season was the catalyst for the high number of injuries at the club during the season.

"Pre-season last year was by far the hardest thing I've personally done, and I can vouch for nearly everyone that was on the list last year and they can agree with me, it was intense," Reimers said.

"Judging by the way we basically just died by the end of the year, it took its toll eventually."

Dumped Bomber Kyle Reimers says he still has plenty to offer an AFL club.

"For the last couple of weeks I've been thinking about what I could possibly do afterwards, [but] if you dwell on it too long you're just going to get yourself in a bad state and not be able to get out of it," Reimers said about his delisting from Essendon.

"I've got a lot more than I've shown. [I can offer a] different dynamic to a forward line basically, and possibly a midfield. I'm fit, ready to go, and hoping to get that chance.

"It's far from over in my eyes."
