Jesse White has been training with NBL club Melbourne United after having retired from the Magpies in 2017. White, 29, was a talented basketballer in his youth in Queensland and has connections to shooting guard Chris Goulding. Jesse White announces his retirement, effective at the end of the 2017 season. "I’m really grateful for the time I’ve spent at both Collingwood and Sydney; the relationships I’ve built and the opportunities afforded to me while at both clubs," White said. "Having spent the last 11 years playing football professionally, it’s strange for it to come to an end, but I’m really comfortable with my decision to wrap up my football career at the end of the season. "I’m looking forward to the future, spending time with my family and pursuing interests beyond the game."

"I came back and ran a personal best - I think it was 27 seconds off my PB in the 2km, which is awesome. "I've set a good benchmark for myself now and I can really step up from there."

New Magpie recruit Jesse White says he was certain he would be headed to Adelaide last year as part of a trade for Kurt Tippett. "I thought it was all rosy. I thought it was all going through. I had signed my half of the deal and it was all looking pretty positive and it came to the deadline of the trade period and it all fell through," White said.

Jesse White is traded to Collingwood in exchange for pick 44 going to the Swans. "A deal with Adelaide became a possibility late last year but when that fell through I decided the best thing I could do was to have the best season possible and make things happen, open up some other doors," White said. "I just wanted to play, regularly, and then Collingwood came into the picture which coincided with my family moving back to Victoria from the Gold Coast. I grew up in Richmond until I was three, so I've sort of come full circle."

Paul Roos is confident a key-position role in place of injured Daniel Bradshaw will help Jesse White regain his 2009 form. "In some ways, Jesse probably played his best footy last year as that key full-forward so this gives him a chance to do that working with Goodesy and working with Henry [Playfair]," Sydney coach Paul Roos said. "Having three talls worked for us early on but it probably didn't help Jesse as much as last year playing at full-forward. Now it's a chance for him to step up."

''To give them credit, his management were very good, they never used the threat of the new team or anything like that,'' Swans general manager of football Andrew Ireland said. ''But we are obviously aware that there was the possibility there could be some interest given he is from up that way.'
