Luke Darcy Biography

Tuesday, 14 April 2020

Luke Darcy takes Matthew Croft's place on the Western Bulldogs' board of directors, and will be responsible for overseeing governance of the club's football programs.

"I'm extremely honoured and humbled to officially join the Western Bulldogs' board of directors," Darcy said.

"This is a great opportunity for me to give back to a club which has provided so much to me over the years, and to contribute wherever I can in what are extremely difficult times for everyone."

Luke Darcy will be part of the selection committee that will choose the Western Bulldogs' next coach.

Darcy said he had decided to accept the responsibility at the urging of club president Peter Gordon.

"It's such a complex role now that you get someone who might have a huge amount of skill in one area who needs some support in another area," Darcy told radio station Triple M.

"I don't think there is someone who can deal with all of the complexities all on their own."

Luke Darcy says the Dogs would have won a flag in the late-90s if then coach Terry Wallace had been more receptive to feedback from players.

"It is my absolute belief that the Bulldogs would have won a premiership in the late '90s had the coach felt secure enough in himself to accept input from the playing group," Darcy wrote in a column the AFL website.

"Unfortunately, Terry Wallace wasn't the right character to handle this feedback; he believed that players meeting among themselves would lead to discontent. Not surprisingly, the Richmond players shared a similar experience following Terry's five-year stint at Tigerland."

Sunday, 8 March 2009

Luke Darcy believes his old side's fans will see plenty of gifted father-son recruit Ayce Cordy this season.

Sunday, 11 November 2007

Mark Ricciuto and Luke Darcy accept coaching roles with the national AIS-AFL Academy. Their new responsibilities include working with the new state-based programs formed as part of changes to the AFL's elite pathway program.
