Mark Brayshaw Biography

Wednesday, 20 January 2021

AFL coaches Association boss Mark Brayshaw has quit his role after six years in the position to take on a new role as chief executive of Levin Health, which uses medical cannabis for treating chronic pain.

"I have loved this job. The coaches have inspired me with their work ethic, empathy and candour," Brayshaw said.

Angus Brayshaw is likely to end the year as a top-five draft pick in thee 2014 national draft after an excellent season.

Brayshaw was nine days away from being eligible for last year's NAB AFL Draft, but had he just snuck in, he might not have even been a top-30 selection after an injury-affected season.

But everything went right for the midfielder this year after working hard over summer to improve his speed, strengthen his core, and hit the season in top form.

The son of former North Melbourne player (and current Coaches' Association CEO) Mark Brayshaw never really stopped, and with each game showed why clubs with early selections will strongly consider him.

James Hird fronts a specially convened gathering of coaches on Thursday to deal exclusively with his re-admission to coach Essendon in 2015.

The meeting was held at the Bayside home of interim AFL Coaches Association CEO Mark Brayshaw.

While most, if not all, coaches were aware of the meeting, only three attended – Collingwood's Nathan Buckley, Western Bulldogs' Brendan McCartney and Gold Coast's Guy McKenna.

They were joined by Brayshaw and Essendon general manager of football Performance Neil Craig.

"It was a good meeting, all part of James reconnecting with the coaches association." Brayshaw said on The Footy Show.

"He's had 12 months out, done his time, and what we had was a warm and robust conversation, a very mature conversation."
