Already blessed with outstanding endurance, Caleb Daniel says his work with Bulldogs assistant coaches Joel Corey and Daniel Giansiracusa had made him a much shrewder footballer. "When you're younger you're all about running wherever the footy goes and Joel talks about smart running patterns and the way you can influence the game and save your legs by being a smarter runner, and that's helped me out a lot," Daniel said. "Gia was one of the best leading forwards in the competition when he was up and going and he's passed a lot of those tips across to me."

Retired Cat Joel Corey joins the Western Bulldogs as a development coach. "Joel is highly respected across the industry for his selfless attitude and desire to make his peers better, and we are thrilled to again have someone of such high calibre choose to join the Western Bulldogs," the club's general manager of football, Graham Lowe, said. Veteran midfielder Joel Corey's says a change to his training program helped him cope with a chronic knee injury last year. "I'm never on my legs three days in a row, that kind of stuff," Corey said. "I've put more emphasis on leg weights and making sure the leg is strong. Hopefully I can stay injury free and contribute through the season."

A second knee operation has Geelong midfielder Joel Corey finally on the comeback trail after being out since round four. "It eventuated from that first injury that wasn't fixed properly the first time around," Corey said. "There was a bit of time, about a month, when I was in limbo. Then the surgeon decided to have another look. It was a relief that they found something wrong in the operation."

Geelong forward Max Rooke will undergo investigative knee surgery after struggling to shake the tendonitis that has troubled him this season. "Max has come up a bit sore and he's actually having some investigative surgery on his knee to see how we go," football operations manager Neil Balme told said. "We're a little unsure how long that will take; we don't think it's too long term, but it's certainly a bit of an issue for him."

Geelong midfielder Joel Corey has undergone knee surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his knee and will miss the start of the season. "Joel suffered a similar injury in 2005 and after the same procedure he returned after three weeks and we think this will be the same outcome," Geelong's general manager of football operations Neil Balme said. "You never want an injury, but in these cases it could always be worse. We are confident that Joel will be available early in the season.

Cameron Ling will lead Geelong's premiership defence as captain this season, with an expanded leadership group behind him. "It's got a bit of romanticism to it - Cameron supported the Cats when he was a kid, played for St Josephs, played for the Falcons, played for our VFL team, played for our AFL team, became an All-Australian, has finished in the top-four seven times in our best-and-fairest and is a dual premiership player both in the pre-season comp and the home-and-away season," Cats chief executive Brian Cook said. "It speaks volumes for him - not only does he meet his commitments on the field and off the field, but he displays great values." Cameron Ling will head Geelong's leadership group that includes Gary Ablett, Jimmy Bartel, Joel Corey, Corey Enright, Joel Selwood, James Kelly and Harry Taylor. Kelly and Taylor are new additions to the group for 2010.

"I was pretty lucky, actually, to get on the end of it," Bartel said. "Probably most people didn't see Matty Stokes put an amazing block on for me, and Joel Corey probably stepped around about three blokes to get it away, so I was just on the end of those two doing a good job."

Acting Geelong captain Joel Corey says he is happy that Tom Harley is returning to the side this week to resume captaincy duties. "It was a nice change, but I was pretty much just keeping it warm for Tom and Cameron for when they got back, but it was nice to lead such a good team," Corey said. "Being captain is not overly different. You walk out first, and you have the last say, but that's about it. "I don't mind having the last say, but I won't mind handing it back."
