Michael Osborne Biography

Wednesday, 27 November 2013

Hawthorn premiership player Michael Osborne is appointed as a development coach at Carlton.

"Michael has played in a premiership side and he knows what it's like to win. He also knows the work ethic you need to adopt to win," Carlton coach Mick Malthouse said.

"He knows what it's like to be cut from a list and rejoin a list. He also knows what it's like to play with injury and recover from injury. So Michael will be a great resource for our players."

Jed Anderson will miss two matches with a hamstring injury and will travel back to Darwin to visit his new baby Elijah.

Anderson's absence will open the door for Michael Osborne, who has not played since injuring his ACL, to return to the team.

"It's exciting news for our footy club, and certainly for 'Ossie'," Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson said.

"He did a lot of training over the summer with us, in terms of the 18 versus 18, so we think his match fitness is pretty good.

"He's an experienced player, an important part of our mix, and we're delighted to have him back."

Veteran Hawk Michael Osborne says he hopes to make the most of his remaining opportunities after being delisted, then re-drafted by Hawthorn following a knee reconstruction.

"With where I was at with my knee early on, after the operation I had some complications with my recovery, and you can get a bit down about things and a bit unsure about whether it's all going to work out," Osborne said.

"I spoke closely with the club throughout the duration of my rehab. They wanted to give me every opportunity to get back, and I wanted to give myself every opportunity to be right and be confident in my ability to play another season.

"It (being de-listed) probably acted as another motivator to keep plugging away, get the body right, and get the knee strong again to get back playing."

Michael Osborne says he hopes to see some NAB Cup action as part of his recovery from a knee reconstruction.

"I've had a pretty steady increase in training load since Christmas, and the knee and the body has been responding pretty well to it, so I've got a lot of confidence in it," Osborne said.

"The only thing I'm not doing at the moment is the competitive game-style sort of training, but hopefully I'll be introduced to that in the next couple of weeks, and maybe even by NAB Cup be ready for a bit of game play."

Michael Osborne is delisted by the Hawk but has been assured he will re-join Hawthorn's list at the pre-season draft.

"Hawthorn have given me a guarantee that he'll be on their list next year and we'll try and sort that out with the club over the next couple of weeks," Osborne's manager Liam Pickering said.

Hawthorn midfielder Michael Osborne will have a traditional knee reconstruction after tearing his ACL .

"While it's extremely disappointing for Michael, his commitment and dedication to a strong rehabilitation is first class," Hawthorn's football operations general manager Mark Evans said.

Hawthorn's Michael Osborne has suffered a suspected ACL rupture in the final quarter of the Hawks' win over Melbourne.

"It's not looking great," Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson said.

"We're disappointed for 'Os', because he's an important player to our footy club, and to our side. We've just got to deal with it if it's the worst case scenario, but hopefully it won't be too bad."

Hawk Michael Osborne has a confirmed tear in his ACL, but the club is unsure how long the forward will be sidelined for.

"Scans today on Michael Osborne's knee confirmed a high grade but incomplete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and lateral ligament," a statement from the Hawks said.

"Hawthorn will require specialist advice early next week as to the appropriate management of this injury, and will provide a further update once the course of treatment has been decided."

Friday, 21 August 2009

Hawthorn forward Michael Osborne's fortunes have mirrored those of his side over the past couple of years as he talks about the frustration on an inconsistent 2009 season for both him and his side.

"I had a few injuries over the past couple of years and to get a full pre-season under my belt and to get out there and really push myself was good. I had a good year and getting fifth in the best and fairest showed that," he said.

"I lost a bit of fitness over the year and tried to work on getting that back up. After another full pre-season I was confident but having a few hiccups with injuries hampered me early on and I struggled to get going there for a while.".

Friday, 1 May 2009

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson says fans should not expect too much from Michael Osborne in his return match after missing four weeks with a hamstring injury.

"Michael's missed every game since round one. It'll take him a little way to become fully match conditioned," Clarkson said.

"I wouldn't expect he'd be best on ground on the weekend, but as long as he makes a contribution to the side, that's all we're after."

The report of Luke Hodge and injury to Michael Osborne meant Alastair Clarkson refused to take solace from the Hawks' close loss to Geelong.
