Antoni Grover Biography

Wednesday, 6 December 2017

Former Dockers defender Antoni Grover, who played 202 games for the club from 1999-2012, presents Fremantle recruit Nathan Wilson with his old No.14 jumper.

"When I got drafted, I was a natural forward and I went into the backline so, hopefully, Antoni can give me some good tips for the next couple years," Wilson said.

"I grew up going for Freo and he was one of the stars, so I’m grateful to get the No.14."

Veteran Fremantle defender Antoni Grover has announced he will retire at the end of the season.

"If I look back on my last contest in AFL football, I'll be sitting there with a smile on my face because I know I went 100 per cent," Grover said.

"I think back to my first game and the first contest I was in (against the Sydney Swans in 1999) … I started the same way."

Monday, 15 August 2011

Fremantle defender Antoni Grover will play his 200th match this week, but is unsure whether he will continue next season.

"We haven't spoken about that at all. I'm just focusing on the football side of things, that's how I like to keep it," Grover said.

"That's something that I'll weigh up at the end of the year - how the body's going and what the family thinks and so on."

Fremantle defender Antoni Grover says he now approaches the pre-season differently as one of the older players in the team.

"I've probably found you get older and you learn to look after your body the best you can," Grover said.

"I've had no off-season operations, which puts you in good stead, and I've been able to do some running in the off-season and also in the pre-season."

Cat Cameron Ling and Freo's Antoni Grover have accepted the reprimands handed down by the match review panel.

Both players were booked on striking charges during Sunday's clash at Subiaco and risked the prospect of suspension had they chosen to fight their reports at the AFL Tribunal.

However their clubs have opted to ensure their men are free to line up this weekend, meaning both Ling and Grover will be forced to carry demerit points for the next 12 months.

Fremantle will welcome back Luke McPharlin and defender Antoni Grover for Sunday's clash with Geelong at Subiaco Oval.

Wednesday, 3 June 2009

Fremantle rookie Clancee Pearce will play against Port Adelaide this weekend after injuries to Antoni Grover and Luke McPharlin.

"Three out of those four guys that are out are in our leadership group, which is significant," Fremantle coach Mark Harvey said.

"I don't think I've been through a list like this as in the injuries so early in the season.

"You find out a lot about your list and the resolve and what you can do when a lot of things aren't going right for you."

Sunday, 19 April 2009

Fremantle defender Michael Johnson says his team let down club stalwart Antoni Grover in his milestone match against St Kilda at Docklands on Saturday night.

"We were very disappointed in our effort today. We actually thought we played all right in the second quarter and we almost outscored them, but we were just very disappointed with the effort and we let down our fellow teammate Antoni Grover on his 150th game," he said.

Tuesday, 14 April 2009

Fremantle defender Antoni Grover is at a loss to explain early-season skill errors, but pledges improvement in time.

"To put an exact reason on it is not an easy thing to do, but it's not acceptable and it's disappointing for our fans," Grover said from Fremantle Oval on Tuesday.

"We just want to keep demanding excellence of each other, whether we're on the training track, in the gym or on the field.

"And each time we go out to play we want to keep raising the bar and lifting our expectations of each other."

Friday, 3 April 2009

Fremantle defender Antoni Grover says the team can rebound from last week's error-ridden effort.

Monday, 22 December 2008
