Peter Moore Biography

Wednesday, 27 September 2023

Collingwood legend Peter Moore will present the 2023 premiership cup should the Magpies, while Brisbane's three-time premiership coach Leigh Matthews will do the honours if the Lions are triumphant.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Peter Moore, Darcy Moore is named Collingwood captain for the 2023 season.

"It is truly an incredible honour to be given the opportunity to lead this team," Moore said.

"The Collingwood captaincy is significant in its own right but it also holds another layer of significance for my family and I. To follow my father’s journey as captain of the Collingwood football club at almost the same stage in his football journey is very special."

Peter Moore says his son, Darcy Moore, will find life easier in Collingwood's backline and blamed the Magpies' game plan for starving their forwards of opportunities in 2017.

"One of the problems at Collingwood is the way they play. Their chosen game plan is a five-man forward line playing on seven defenders, so it's very difficult for forward to kick a lot of goals and get a lot of opportunities," Peter Moore said.

"The other issue is their entries into the forward half were absolutely hopeless in the first half of last year.

"When you add all that up, forward line is not the best spot you can be at Collingwood and Collingwood forwards don't kick a lot of goals."
