Mitchell and Hawks assistant Adrian Hickmott will be with the club throughout this week, meeting with various staff members and different departments within the club as part of their professional growth.

Adrian Hickmott is added to the Hawk's coaching panel for 2021 under new senior coach Sam Mitchell.

"Adrian has a wealth of coaching knowledge, including working as part of the Eagles' premiership coaching team in 2018," Hawthorn head of football Rob McCartney said.

"He is a highly accomplished coach, with a proven ability to develop and nurture young talent which will be pivotal as our club continues to transition through this stage of on-field growth."

Carlton father-son prospect Wil Hickmott has turned heads after dominating the WA Draft Combine on Sunday.

Watched by his dad Adrian Hickmott, who played 134 games for the Blues after 50 at Geelong and is now a West Coast assistant coach, Hickmott showcased the running power which could be the point of difference for him to find his way onto an AFL list.

The 180cm outside midfielder pushed to level 21.3 in the Yo-Yo test, ran an elite 8.13-second agility test, and ran a 2.86-second 20m sprint – faster than any prospect at national level.

The Subiaco product looms as a late national draft selection or potential rookie after averaging 21.7 disposals in the WAFL Colts competition.

"Wil Hickmott today has run a terrific test, he's won the 20m, the Yo-Yo and the agility, so hopefully that really boosts his chances of getting picked up," state talent manager Adam Jones said.

"Wil is a very good outside player. He's got terrific speed, he's got good endurance, he kicks the ball really well and makes good decisions."

Elliot Yeo wins the John Worsfold medal as West Coast's best and fairest for the 2017 season.

Yeo polled 197 votes to edge out Jeremy McGovern by six, with Luke Shuey (180) rounding out the top three.

"At the end of 2016 I had a fair few things that I wanted to work on. It was a disappointing year for myself," Yeo said.

"It (form turnaround) definitely came from a lot of hard work, but it also came from having a mentor such as 'Hick' (assistant coach Adrian Hickmott), he's been absolutely phenomenal for myself this year.

"He's one of those coaches who keeps you accountable but also pushes you to the limits he thinks you're capable of."

West Coast assistant Adrian Hickmott pays tribute to the late Phil Walsh after being awarded the 2017 scholarship named in honour of the former Adelaide coach.

Hickmott was announced as the winner of the $10,000 grant at the AFL Coaches Association's annual general meeting in Melbourne.

The scholarship honours the legacy of Walsh by aiding the recipient's professional development.

"Phil was always excited, he was always about teaching and educating others and doing it with passion, so it's an honour to receive this scholarship," Hickmott said.

"He really had a vision about being the best he could, and he always acted on what he said, so I thank the AFLCA for the scholarship and I'll make sure I use it wisely and get the most out of it to help others."

Saturday, 5 November 2016

West Coast has finalised its coaching set-up for 2017, refreshing the group as the club prepares for its fourth season under Adam Simpson.

Former Docker Justin Longmuir has been appointed to the senior assistant role, with champion ruckman Dean Cox taking over as joint midfield coach with Adrian Hickmott.

Longmuir is undertaking the AFL's level four coaching course, after being part of the program's second intake at the start of 2016.

Former player Adam Selwood will head up development, Jaymie Graham will become forwards coach and Daniel Pratt will become backline and team defence coach.

Monday, 28 October 2013

Adrian Hickmott is elevated to a senior assistant coaching role at West Coast under new coach Adam Simpson.

"I have been coaching ever since I retired and this is a really exciting opportunity," Hickmott said in a club statement.

"For the last two years I have been working with the backs in a development role. I believe I have built a strong rapport with the players and I look forward to continuing to assist them impacting in the AFL."

"I am really looking forward to working with Adam and the other coaching staff. We have a terrific group of players and we are all committed to seeing the club rise up the ladder."
