Paul Hasleby Biography

Monday, 23 April 2018

Four-time Ross Glendinning medallist Paul Hasleby is "extremely disappointed" the best player in each Western Derby will no longer receive the accolade.

The medal has been scrapped in an end to a 17-season tradition, while the trophy will no longer be presented to the winning team because of changes to brewer CUB's sponsorship deal.

"I can't understand why they wouldn't go forward presenting the Ross Glendinning Medal at least, given it's been a big part of the history of the two teams," Hasleby said.

"With or without a sponsor you don't require it to go forward, you can always find who the best player has been on the ground, so my initial reaction is I'm extremely disappointed."

Wednesday, 15 July 2015

Paul Hasleby will be one of eight inductees into the Western Australian Football Hall of Fame at a function in Perth.

Monday, 23 August 2010

Paul Hasleby announces that he will retire at the end of the 2010 season saying the club's young players will hold it in good stead after he leaves.

"When you walk around this football club there is such an abundance of talent and youth all with the 'eye of the tiger' ready to take on the challenge of an AFL career," he said.

"That more than anything probably signified to me that it was time to stand aside for the young guys to come in and do their bit."

Fremantle's Paul Hasleby is keen to play on beyond this year with the hope of playing more finals.

"Once you get to 29 you're getting watched every game you play," Hasleby said.

"I'm just going to keep putting my best foot forward on and off the field and hopefully at the end of the year the club deems it good for me to go on."

Thursday, 10 September 2009

Paul Hasleby will remain with Fremantle for an 11th season after agreeing to terms on Thursday morning.

"I'll be starting pre-season training in early November and I'm excited about playing my 11th season with Fremantle," he said.

"Along with all the senior players, I've really enjoyed working with our young playing group. There is a lot to like about the future of the Fremantle Football Club and I'm very keen to be a part of that."

Saturday, 29 August 2009

Fremantle coach Mark Harvey says Paul Hasleby will have to decide if he wants to stay with the club.

"I think we've put forward the contract; the ball's in Paul's court. Paul and his management need to make a decision," Harvey said.

Wednesday, 5 August 2009

Fremantle coach Mark Harvey denies that he is punishing Paul Hasleby by giving the midfielder less game time after Hasleby refused to sign a new one-year deal and threatened to walk out on the club if not offered a two-year contract.

"That's one of those lovely stories that's done by external people," Harvey said.

"If you remember two weeks ago he had a calf injury that was nearly going to pull him out of the side, so we've got to make sure that doesn't re-occur."

Tuesday, 21 July 2009

Paul Hasleby wants to finish his career at Fremantle but has been left frustrated.

Hasleby is out of contract at season's end and is seeking a new two-year deal.

However, the club has reportedly only put forward a one-year extension, an offer the 28-year-old quickly rejected.

"I've given good service during my time at Fremantle and I'm really keen on ending my career with a long period of success, and hopefully that's at Fremantle because I think they are building towards something," Hasleby said.

"I really want to be there when they are having their time in the sun."

Tuesday, 12 May 2009

Fremantle midfielder Paul Hasleby says a meeting of senior players is responsible for the side's turnaround.

After a poor 0-4 start to 2009, Fremantle have now won 3 in a row.

"The senior players got together four weeks ago and said, 'If we're going to turn this around it's going to have to come from us'," Hasleby said.

"It was a leadership thing. When we were 0-4 we were going through a pretty tough time and we needed some people to steady the ship.

"We took it upon ourselves to really turn it around and I think you'll see every senior player has really lifted their work rate and their influence in the game since that point.

"We've all delivered in that area."

Tuesday, 21 April 2009

St Kilda's Leigh Montagna will front the AFL tribunal tonight to contest a charge of striking Paul Hasleby.

Monday, 6 April 2009

Paul Hasleby says Fremantle's midfield has to learn to work to its strengths in the coming weeks.

Monday, 18 February 2008

Paul Hasleby ruptures his medial ligament of his left knee in Fremantle's win over West Coast during the pre-season.

Hasleby will have scans to determine the extent of the damage and whether a reconstruction will be required.

"At this stage, it is a medial ligament but we aren't totally sure until after he has a scan. That is significant in itself, but we have our fingers crossed that that's all it is," Dockers coach Mark Harvey said.

"When a guy like Hase has put everything on the line, the last thing you want him doing is missing the whole season. That was the only downside to the game for us."
