Todd Banfield Biography

Tuesday, 9 September 2014

Richmond has acted quickly following its elimination final defeat, cutting seven players from its list, including forward Aaron Edwards.

Brett O'Hanlon and Brad Helbig have also been delisted, as well as rookies Orren Stephenson, Ben Darrou, Cadeyn Williams and Todd Banfield.

They join retiring pair Jake King and Daniel Jackson, taking the total list turnover to nine ahead of the upcoming trade and free agency period.

"We'd like to thank all of these players for their hard work during their time at the Richmond Football Club," Tigers football manager Dan Richardson said.

"They have each made their own contribution to the club and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours."

Brisbane delist Todd Banfield but have commited to re-drafting him as a rookie in the coming draft.

"Unfortunately Todd is a casualty of the list management process and the outcomes of a busy trade period," Lions general manager of football operations Dean Warren said.

"However we are committed to res-electing Todd at next month's rookie draft.

"Todd is a fantastic character, and he has handled himself superbly through this whole process. The club still sees him as being a valuable player and hence we are committed to retaining him on our rookie list in 2014."

A regime of cycling and extra skills sessions has Lion Todd Banfield primed for more time in the midfield.

"I improved my endurance a little bit last year but in this pre-season I've done a lot of road rides and bike because I haven't been able to run as much," Banfield said.

"We did a session of 150s (running repetitions) - the same session we did this time last year - and I've improved by a lot, so training with the bike has helped."

Talented young Brisbane Lion Todd Banfield is only 20 years old but he is already a mentor to many of the club's younger players.

"I feel a lot more like a leader this year. A lot of the guys are around my age and playing their fist game for the club," Banfield said.

"A few guys come up to me. I've got Jared Polec living with me and it is always good to help the young guys."

Todd Banfield is the NAB AFL Rising Star nominee for round six after tallying 15 disposals and kicking three goals in a loss to the Swans.

Banfield says he has formed a close friendship with teammate and last year's rising star winner Daniel Rich.

"I'm really close with Richy," Banfield said.

"He taught me a lot last year and when I played against him back in year eight he was always the guy who you know would lift for the other team. He's got great leadership qualities and he talks to me and helps me improve my game."

Sunday, 18 April 2010

Lions rookie Todd Banfield has had a start most rookies dream of, with six goals in his four games working alongside the competition's top forwards in Jonathan Brown and Brendan Fevola.

"It would be good to just keep my spot in the side and do my thing for the team,'' he said.

"I couldn't ask for much more than to work with the best forward and centre half-forward in the competition."

Saturday, 27 March 2010

Todd Banfield makes his AFL debut for Brisbane at the Gabba with 17 disposals (11 kicks and 6 handballs), 6 marks, 3 tackles and a goal in a 32-point win over West Coast.

Teenage speedster Todd Banfield will make the step up from the Queensland State League and Lions coach Michael Voss likes the way he looks.

"He certainly adds some blistering speed and at the same time he's finding the footy, so he has become quite dangerous down there," Voss said.

"It's good to be able to have a player who comes in and sort of says: 'Pick me, I want to be picked, put me in the team,' and he has done that. He has earned his spot."
