Kane Lucas says he hasn't spoken to Carlton coach Mick Malthouse since he was delisted and he is hoping to "have a good crack" against the Blues for his new club West Coast in 2015.

"I was a bit the same as Brock McLean, I didn't really get a phone call from the coach Mick," Lucas said.

"But the CEO rang me while I was in Bali on a family holiday, so that was a bit of a dampener.

"But footy is a pretty tough business. I just got a call from Andrew McKay, and just said 'Thanks for the five years service and everything you've done'.

"I think we've got them (in round one of the NAB Challenge) and then round two of the AFL season. So best-case scenario, hopefully I'm lining up against them and having a good crack against them. It will be interesting but we'll see what happens."

Wednesday, 3 December 2014

After being delisted by Carlton, Kane Lucas has been handed a lifeline after being picked up by West Coast at the 2014 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

"The addition of Kane complements the group of players we secured through the National Draft," general manager of football Craig Vozzo said.

We drafted five 18-year-olds in the National Draft and we felt we needed to add a mature player to our squad as well.

"Kane is a 23-year-old who has played 42 games at the level and he also has good pace. Given a second opportunity in his home town, we believe he can flourish in that environment."

Thursday, 20 November 2014

After being delisted by Carlton, Kane Lucas has had a medical examination at West Coast and looks set to resurrect his AFL career in his home state via the upcoming NAB AFL Draft.

Wednesday, 29 October 2014

After being delisted by Carlton, Kane Lucas says he will seek the advice of former teammate and close mate Heath Scotland in a bid to resurrect his AFL career.

"He was much the same as me early in his career," Lucas said, citing Scotland's departure from Collingwood.

"I still talk to him quite regularly, I plan on catching up with him.

"(We'll talk about) how to take on the next few weeks. You get a bit nervous and anxious, so (I'll ask) how to deal with that, and how I can advertise myself as a player."

Tuesday, 21 October 2014

Mitch Robinson, Brock McLean and Kane Lucas will be available to rival clubs as delisted free agents from November 1 after being delisted by Carlton.

"After 100 games with Carlton it is time for Mitch to have a fresh start and we wish him all the best in his football future," Carlton football manager Andrew McKay said.

"Brock has been a loyal servant of our football club and was in our leadership group this year, while Kane is a terrific young man but unfortunately he struggled to cement a spot in our senior side this season.

"On behalf of the club, I wish all of these players the very best for the future."

Thursday, 2 October 2014

Carlton is preparing to lose out-of-contract midfielder Kane Lucas, confirming he's on the trade table.

"Kane's looking for opportunities, he's not 100 per cent on the trade table but he is out of contract," Blues list manager Shane Rogers said.

"Most players and their managers (in that position) will put them on the table regardless.

"Until Kane gets signed, [that he's up for trade is] probably something that could be said."

Tuesday, 21 May 2013

Free of form and injury woes, Kane Lucas says he is enjoying having some continuity in his football having played every game this season so far.

"I've got a few pre-seasons under my belt now and I'm more aware of what works for me and what I have to do get myself right," Lucas said.

"As long as I maintain those things, I'm confident my body will keep holding up pretty well."

Saturday, 4 February 2012

After a year of physical and mental pain, Carlton's 'Sugar' Kane Lucas looks set for a brighter 2012.

"When you have a year like I did there are a lot of things to work on, but I think the biggest thing for me was just getting some confidence back and having some self-belief in my abilities," Lucas said.

"I think I'm a lot stronger now so I'm looking forward to better things this year."

Wednesday, 9 November 2011

Carlton midfielder Kane Lucas hopes to secure a place in the Blues' midfield brigade next season by working on his versatility.

"It's a very hard midfield to break in but hopefully with a bit of versatility I can add a second string and work through the forward flanks and back flanks," he said.

"I have to contribute in other areas of the ground and maybe kick some goals and help out in defence.''

Saturday, 10 April 2010

Kane Lucas makes his AFL debut for Carlton at the MCG with 16 disposals (4 kicks and 12 handballs), 3 marks and 6 tackles in a 20-point loss to Essendon.

Wednesday, 24 March 2010

First-round Blues draft pick Kane Lucas is likely to line up against Richmond in the 2010 season-opener at the MCG.

"If it doesn't happen this week it will certainly happen the next week or the week after," Carlton assistant coach Brett Montgomery said.

"He's a good kid, a smart kid and he knows the game of footy. Every time we've put him out against AFL opposition he's looked up to the class."

Tuesday, 1 December 2009

Blues recruiting manager Wayne Hughes explains his decision to draft 3 smaller players, including Kane Lucas, Marcus Davies and Rohan Kerr, at the 2009 NAB AFL draft rather than a tall player to replace the now-departed Brendan Fevola.

Hughes' explanation comes in the wake of some backlash by Carlton supporters over his decisions at the draft.

"We rated Kane Lucas higher than any of the tall players left in the draft at pick 10 as John Butcher had already gone to Port Adelaide. You will find the draft full of tall players taken first round who didn't work," Hughes said.
