Marcus Davies Biography

After being delisted by Carlton, 22-year old Marcus Davies hopes to resurrect his AFL career with another club.

"Every player has things to work on, and I've got a few, but I believe I've still got a lot to offer, particularly with my pace and how I always stick to my role for the team," Davies said.

"Numerous players in my position will be saying the same thing, but I feel like I'm just getting to the stage where I'm very confident at VFL level and I'm ready to step up and become a regular AFL player.

"I just need the opportunity to string a few games together, like I did in my second year under 'Ratts' (Brett Ratten). And I need a coach to back me in."

Marcus Davies makes his AFL debut for Carlton at the MCG with 10 disposals (3 kicks and 7 handballs), 2 marks and a tackle in a 76-point win over Essendon.

Blues recruiting manager Wayne Hughes explains his decision to draft 3 smaller players, including Kane Lucas, Marcus Davies and Rohan Kerr, at the 2009 NAB AFL draft rather than a tall player to replace the now-departed Brendan Fevola.

Hughes' explanation comes in the wake of some backlash by Carlton supporters over his decisions at the draft.

"We rated Kane Lucas higher than any of the tall players left in the draft at pick 10 as John Butcher had already gone to Port Adelaide. You will find the draft full of tall players taken first round who didn't work," Hughes said.
