Carlton rookie Joe Dare says he tried not to get his hopes up in the rookie after missing out on being drafted in the national draft.

"I learnt from the national draft, I got a bit involved and got caught up in the hype," he said.

"I got myself fairly sure that I was going to get drafted, so I learnt to ease off this time. There's not much you can do - worrying about it isn't going to change whether a club drafts you or not."
