Menzel did not receive an offer from a rival team by Sunday's 5pm deadline, while fellow free agents Nick Suban (Fremantle), Ben Howlett (Essendon), Simon White (Carlton), Ben Sinclair (Collingwood) and Claye Beams (Brisbane Lions) were all left in limbo too.

Simon White has signed a fresh two-year deal that will keep him with Carlton until at least the end of 2017.

"Simon not only plays a key role for us on the field, but he’s also a teacher and mentor for many of his younger teammates," Blues football manager Andrew McKay said.

Simon White is subbed out of Friday night's game against West Coast after appearing to aggravate an injury to his left knee.

Simon White has been fined $1600 by the Blues and will continue with a diversion program as a result of an appearance before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.

White was facing an assault charge following an incident outside a Melbourne nightclub in May last year. He was placed on a diversion program last November.

"While I regret that the incident occurred, I have definitely learned from it and I thank the court for allowing me to continue on my diversion program," White said.

"I am glad that this is finally over so that I can focus on my future."

Simon White has been charged by police over an alleged assault.

But the Blues say the 26-year-old "will continue with his normal playing duties until advised otherwise".

"We've charged a 26-year-old Brunswick West man relation to an alleged assault that occurred in the CBD on 14 May," a Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed.

"He's been charged with recklessly cause injury and unlawful assault and has been summonsed to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 21 November."

Simon White will play against Adelaide on Sunday, but the club will wait until a police investigation is complete before deciding whether to sanction him for his part in an altercation with a fan.

White has been accused of punching a fan as he left a concert at Melbourne's Palace Theatre.

"Simon has co-operated fully with the police and the club is offering its full support during this time," a club spokesperson said.

"Once the investigation runs its course the club will determine if any club imposed sanction is applicable."

Carlton say they are co-operating with police as it investigates a late-night altercation involving defender Simon White.

White was involved in an incident outside a Melbourne nightspot on Tuesday night after leaving a concert.

Police have seized security camera footage from the venue in question, with the altercation reported to have also involved a 23-year-old male.

"We are aware of an altercation on Tuesday night," the Blues said in a statement.

"The club and Simon have been co-operating with police. As the matter is being investigated we are not in a position to go into any more detail."

After regaining full fitness since fracturing his C3 vertebrae in the VFL in late July, Simon White re-signs with Carlton for 2014.

"All the way along the club has shown faith in me," White said.

"I've had quite a few injuries through my career and, especially with something as serious as the neck, it was nice of them to show that faith and keep me on."

Simon White says he is confident of breaking into the Blues' back six.

"I had a few knee troubles last year but I've done a full pre-season which has been really good and I'm just looking forward to getting a few games and a bit of consistency into my body," White said.

"At the moment, we've got all our backs up and running so there's a lot of competition for spots but hopefully I can cement one."

Carlton defender Simon White looks set to miss at least another eight weeks after a complication following LARS surgery to repair the medial ligament in his knee during the off-season.

"I had a LARS ligament put in there along with my medial ligament ... they put [that] in a lot with ACLs, but they have some benefits with medial ligaments as well," White said.

"I had one of those put in about eight weeks ago and unfortunately about three weeks ago I had to have it taken out because my body actually rejected it."

Simon White makes his AFL debut for Carlton at Football Park with 18 disposals (9 kicks and 9 handballs), 11 marks and a tackle in a 48-point win over Adelaide.
