Jonathon Ceglar signs a new three-year deal with Hawthorn in a move that hints he is primed to become the Hawks' No.1 big man. The Lions were keen to add Ceglar to their ruck division, but he instead elected to remain at Waverley Park, where he's played 15 and 11 games respectively in the past two seasons. "He's a valuable player for us who adds a wealth of versatility to our line-up," Hawthorn football boss Graham Wright said. "He's also a member of our emerging leaders group and sets a great example for his teammates both on and off the field."

Jonathon Ceglar says being able to play as a forward is imperative for him to play alongside fellow Hawks ruckman Ben McEvoy. "As a natural ruckman, I need to be able to play forward in this competition. Otherwise you can't play two big blokes. It is something I'm continually working on," Ceglar said. "But the coaches have put the faith in me to play forward, so hopefully I can repay the faith a bit, hit the scoreboard and compete."

I've got no reason to leave here, it's a good place to be," Ceglar said. "There are good people around the club who leave no stone unturned, so I want to hang around and help continue our success."

Developing ruckman Jonathon Ceglar is a week-to-week proposition at Hawthorn, but after stringing together five matches in a row he's making it as tough as he possibly can for the Hawks coaching staff to drop him. "It's just my goal to take my opportunity and control what I can control," Ceglar said. "(I'm trying to) make it hard for the coaches to leave me out really. You're always on edge a bit, but it's making us play good footy at the moment."
