Jon Ceglar will be sidelined for up to three months after fracturing his foot against Collingwood in the VFL.

Wednesday, 13 October 2021

Geelong acquires Jon Ceglar from Hawthorn in the 2021 AFL Trade Period. The Cats gave up a future third-round selection (tied to Brisbane) in exchange for the 30-year-old and a future fourth-round pick.

Ceglar, who had one year remaining on his Hawthorn contract, has been in and out of the Hawks team for much of his 101-game career, playing 12 games in 2021.

Tuesday, 10 September 2019

Jonathon Ceglar signs a new three-year deal with Hawthorn in a move that hints he is primed to become the Hawks' No.1 big man.

The Lions were keen to add Ceglar to their ruck division, but he instead elected to remain at Waverley Park, where he's played 15 and 11 games respectively in the past two seasons.

"He's a valuable player for us who adds a wealth of versatility to our line-up," Hawthorn football boss Graham Wright said.

"He's also a member of our emerging leaders group and sets a great example for his teammates both on and off the field."

Sunday, 17 June 2018

Jonathon Ceglar says being able to play as a forward is imperative for him to play alongside fellow Hawks ruckman Ben McEvoy.

"As a natural ruckman, I need to be able to play forward in this competition. Otherwise you can't play two big blokes. It is something I'm continually working on," Ceglar said.

"But the coaches have put the faith in me to play forward, so hopefully I can repay the faith a bit, hit the scoreboard and compete."

Thursday, 7 September 2017

Jonathon Ceglar signs a new two-year deal with Hawthorn to remain at the club until the end of 2019.

"It's been a tough 12 months for Jon with injury, but we are confident he can get back to his form of 2016 and be a real asset to us around the ground," Hawks list manager Graham Wright said.

"He's been working incredibly hard in his rehab and having him in the mix next season will add some great flexibility to our line-up."

Wednesday, 24 August 2016

Hawthorn has been sanctioned with a suspended $10,000 fine after covering a broadcast camera in its change rooms with a towel in their clash against West Coast.

Hawks ruckman Jonathon Ceglar suffered a serious knee injury in the match at Domain Stadium and the club sought to obscure vision of the big man in the change rooms at three-quarter time.

Hawthorn will be asked by the AFL to explain its actions after covering a broadcast camera in its change rooms with a towel during its clash against West Coast.

Hawks ruckman Jonathon Ceglar suffered a serious knee injury in the match at Domain Stadium and the club sought to obscure vision of the big man in the change rooms at three-quarter time.

Broadcaster Channel Seven showed footage of a club staff member placing the towel over the camera after Ceglar suffered the injury.

Saturday, 20 August 2016

Jonathon Ceglar will undergo a knee reconstruction after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament against West Coast.

"Jon's been an important player for us and has really stepped up in the absence of David Hale this season," Hawthorn football operations manager Chris Fagan said.

"It’s very disappointing for Jon, particularly so close to finals.

"He's a resilient bloke and I have no doubt he will be determined to attack his rehab and get back to footy as soon as he can."

Wednesday, 1 July 2015

Jonathon Ceglar's strong start to 2015 has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension that ties him to Hawthorn until the end of 2017.

"I wasn't going anywhere. I've got no reason to leave here, it's a good place to be," Ceglar said.

"There are good people around the club who leave no stone unturned, so I want to hang around and help continue our success."

Sunday, 22 June 2014

Developing ruckman Jonathon Ceglar is a week-to-week proposition at Hawthorn, but after stringing together five matches in a row he's making it as tough as he possibly can for the Hawks coaching staff to drop him.

"It's just my goal to take my opportunity and control what I can control," Ceglar said.

"(I'm trying to) make it hard for the coaches to leave me out really. You're always on edge a bit, but it's making us play good footy at the moment."

Wednesday, 30 October 2013

The Hawks confirm that they will be promoting rookies Jonathan Ceglar and Will Langford at next month's NAB AFL Draft.

Sunday, 30 June 2013

Thursday, 29 November 2012

Delisted Magpie Jonathon Ceglar has been invited to train with Hawthorn, while overlooked Queenslander Andrew Boston will trial with the Suns.

Monday, 29 October 2012

Collingwood delists Cameron Wood, Simon Buckley, Kirk Ugle, Luke Rounds and Jonathon Ceglar as part of its list overhaul.

"All of the boys did what they could to give themselves a chance and they were good people to have around the club," Collingwood director of football Geoff Walsh said.

"People don't always see what sacrifices are made to try to forge an AFL career. We thank all of them for that effort and wish them well."
