Port Adelaide skipper Tom Jonas is yet to win back his spot in the senior side after being sensationally left out for the round 11 clash with Hawthorn. "To see him not in the ones at the moment hurts me a little bit. Jonas is our captain and is an incredible leader, and he's gotten us to where we are today," Port Adelaide midfielder Ollie Wines said. "We know Tom will get back into form and ... I've got full faith Tom will force his way back into the team."

Port Adelaide opts for an unchanged leadership group, with Tom Jonas to captain the side for a fifth season in 2023. The 203-game defender will be supported by vice-captain Ollie Wines and Darcy Byrne-Jones as part of the three-man leadership group. "It is something I have never taken for granted, particularly because of the incredible people that have come before me and the strong group of leaders we currently have at the club," Jonas said. "It means a lot to again be trusted to lead this group."

Tom Jonas will continue to captain Port Adelaide in 2022 and will be supported by Ollie Wines and Darcy Byrne-Jones in a streamlined three-man leadership group. "He leads by example on and off the field and drives the standards expected of those who represent the Port Adelaide Football Club," Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley said of Jonas. "Ollie and Darcy have been a wonderful support for Tom and each of them brings unique skills and perspectives to the leadership group."

Tom Jonas has turned to the paddocks on his family's Murray River "shack" to maintain fitness standards in lockdown. He has headed to the family's vacant property with only his dog, mixing university study with three training sessions a week. "With the isolation it's tough to get out on public ovals and gyms so we've pillaged the club for all of their fitness gear," Jonas said. "I'm lucky enough here I can run around in the paddocks out the back."

Port Adelaide abandons its co-captaincy model after just one season, installing Tom Jonas as its sole captain for 2020, with Ollie Wines and Hamish Hartlett installed as joint vice-captains. Wines, who was co-captain in 2019, says he is supportive of the move. "I'm 100 percent committed, it's a positive day for the club going forward. I'm standing next to Tom, an incredible leader for the club going forward and I'm all in," Wines said.

Melbourne seeks clarification from the AFL's umpiring department about the rough treatment All Australian ruckman Max Gawn received from Port Adelaide players in Saturday's 26-point loss at the MCG. The Power players went out of their way to rough Gawn up at every opportunity, with Port captain Tom Jonas copping a $2000 fine from the Match Review Officer for his off-the-ball bump on the Demons ruckman. "He's had to deal with this for a while and Max will get through it. Max knows what's he's capable of and he didn't play a great game," Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin said. "But in saying that, we know that some of the things weren't in the rules of the game and that's been relayed to us so we'll work both ways there."

Port Adelaide announce that Ollie Wines and Tom Jonas will serve as co-captains of the Power in 2019, replacing Travis Boak, who stepped down at the end of last year after six years as skipper. Hamish Hartlett rounds out the streamlined three-man leadership group as vice-captain. It's the first time since the Power entered the AFL in 1997, and dating back to when Port Adelaide was formed in 1870, that the club has had co-captains. "I am asking our fans and our members to be equally as brave and support these two boys," Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley said. "They will do them incredibly proud right through the next part of this football club's history."
Monday, 17 December 2018
Tom Jonas signs a three-year contract extension with Port Adelaide to remain at the club until the end of 2022. "You do pinch yourself sometimes for where you've been and where we are at now as a club. I'm extremely grateful to the club for showing so much faith in me throughout my footy journey," Jonas said. "I'm proud to say that I've been part of it and I'm looking forward to continuing to work hard and gearing up for a new campaign."

Justin Westhoff wins his John Cahill medal as Port Adelaide's best and fairest for the 2018 season. Westhoff polled 179 ahead of Ollie Wines and Tom Jonas who tied in second place at 162 votes. "After 12 years, to still be around and still be relevant in the game and standing up here, it's a big honour to accept this award," Westhoff said. "To be honest, it's a bit of a shock to be up here."

Port Adelaide defender Tom Jonas says Andrew Gaff's wellbeing needs to be considered in the fallout from the West Coast star's ugly hit on Fremantle youngster Andrew Brayshaw. Jonas has been there himself, having been handed a six-game suspension for striking Gaff in round nine, 2016. "If you do the crime, there's going to be repercussions, but at the same time, you've probably got to take into account the mental health of the person that does it because he's still a human being," Jonas said. "He'd be taking it pretty hard, as he probably should, but it will get dealt with in due course and both parties will come back from it and still be good footballers."
Monday, 9 July 2018
Tom Jonas will be sidelined for at least a month with a knee injury sustained during Port Adelaide's win over St Kilda. Jonas is scheduled to undergo an arthroscopy to remove a floating loose body from his knee joint.
Monday, 19 February 2018
Tom Jonas says he won't be changing the way he plays despite being suspended for last year's elimination final. "My value on the team is playing on the edge and bringing that aggression," Jonas said. "I'm probably not as talented as some and I need to do that to perform at a high level, so I've got to do that."
Wednesday, 7 February 2018
Travis Boak will remain captain of Port Adelaide in 2018 with Ollie Wines serving again as vice-captain. Recruit Tom Rockliff has been given a leadership role as has Charlie Dixon. Brad Ebert, Hamish Hartlett and Tom Jonas round out the leadership group.

Paddy Ryder claims the John Cahill Medal as Port Adelaide's best and fairest for the 2017 season. Ryder finished on top with 241 votes, just seven votes ahead of Charlie Dixon (234) and Tom Jonas (203). "It's just really humbling to be crowned the club champion," Ryder said. "As a player, I just wanted to come out there and show my love for the game, for my teammates, just try to be as consistent as I can. "I knew in the past I was able to play some pretty good football, but maybe consistency was my let-down, so I just wanted to play at a high level of football and keep that roll on for as long as I could."

Port Adelaide confirms that key defender Jack Hombsch has had hip surgery and will miss the Power's finals campaign. "We’ve been managing the issue throughout the latter part of this season, but it got to the point where surgery was the best option for Jack in the long term," Power's general manager of football Chris Davies said. "It'll be six weeks or so before he can run again, but he should be back to full fitness in time for the start of pre-season."
Tuesday, 22 August 2017
Port Adelaide is still seething at Tom Jonas's two-game suspension, adamant the defender didn't do anything illegal in blocking Bulldog Luke Dahlhaus. The Power on Tuesday reluctantly accepted the ban handed to Jonas by the Match Review Panel, not wanting to risk a three-game suspension. "It's something as defenders we're encouraged to do all the time off the ball, block our opponent's run as much as we possibly can, and Tommy does that probably a dozen times a game in exactly the same fashion as he did on the weekend," Power defender Hamish Hartlett said. "None of us are really happy or over the moon with the decision that's been played out, but it's one we have to cop on the chin unfortunately."
Monday, 21 August 2017
Port Adelaide is set to enter the finals without Tom Jonas after the important defender was slapped with a two-match ban by the Match Review Panel. Jonas was charged with rough conduct for his hit on Western Bulldogs midfielder Luke Dahlhaus off the ball, which was graded intentional conduct with low impact to the head. The 26-year-old would normally have been able to accept a one-match ban, but his bad record meant an extra week was added to the final penalty, sidelining Jonas for the Power's first final.
Monday, 19 December 2016
Port Adelaide retains Hamish Hartlett in the club's leadership group despite the midfielder being put up for trade at the end of 2016. But Hartlett has lost the vice-captaincy, with young gun Ollie Wines taking over as the deputy to Travis Boak, who has been appointed captain for a fifth straight season. Brad Ebert, Tom Jonas and Jackson Trengove complete the slimmed-down leadership group, while Jack Hombsch, Matthew Lobbe and Justin Westhoff have been omitted. Trengove returns to the leadership group after not being a part of it this year.
Sunday, 30 October 2016
Tom Jonas signs a new deal with Port Adelaide that will keep him at the club until the end of 2019. "Tom is a valued member of our leadership group and is one of our most influential leaders on and off the field," Power coach Ken Hinkley said. "He’ll keep working with 'Bass' (defensive coach Nathan Bassett) to fast track the development of our younger defenders like Darcy Byrne-Jones, Logan Austin and Tom Clurey."
Tuesday, 24 May 2016
Tom Jonas is handed a six-match ban for striking Andrew Gaff after the decision to challenge his charge failed at the Tribunal. Jonas received the equal-largest suspension since Dean Solomon was handed an eight-match ban for striking Geelong captain Cameron Ling in 2008. Jonas chose to argue his case and sought to have the intent downgraded from intentional to careless. His decision to challenge elements of the charge cost the defender his right to a one-match discount for an early guilty plea. As he left the hearing room, Jonas said he would not seek to challenge the ban. "I caused an injury to Andrew and let's not forget that … it's good that he's OK," Jonas said. "The jury found that what I did was a six-week penalty and I accept that."
Monday, 23 May 2016
Tom Jonas says he regrets his late hit on Andrew Gaff and he will accept any punishment that comes his way. The defender took the unusual step of speaking pre-emptively, telling an Adelaide media conference that he had contacted Gaff via text message and the Eagles midfielder had accepted his apology. "Firstly I want to say how extremely remorseful and disappointed I am with the incident that occurred on Saturday night," Jonas said. "You never like to injure or see another player injured in our game and that's not in the spirit of the game. "I contacted Andrew straight after the game and he was good enough to accept my apology. "I'll receive a sanction and I'll cop whatever comes my way and learn from it … hopefully I'm not going to be remembered for that."
Nic Naitanui doesn't want the AFL to introduce a send-off rule despite watching his teammate Andrew Gaff get knocked unconscious by the Power's Tom Jonas over the weekend. Umpires coach Hayden Kennedy had said that the umpires would be happy to hand out red cards if the AFL rules called for it, but Naitanui doesn't want to see the rule introduced. "I don't think guys are doing anything too bad that warrants getting sent off," Naitanui said. "I don't think it's in anyone's character. You don't have guys these days growing up to do that purposely. "It was a late hit (on Gaff), and not something you want to see. But I'm sure the Match Review Panel will deal with it. "I think it's probably worse that you stay on the field when you do something like that - because you feel pretty bad."
As expected, Tom Jonas is sent straight to the Tribunal for his crude hit on West Coast midfielder Andrew Gaff.
Sunday, 22 May 2016
Peter Jonas will almost certainly be sent straight to the Tribunal for his crude late hit on West Coast midfielder Andrew Gaff, which left the midfielder knocked out in the Power's match at Adelaide Oval. The Power defender's hit will be assessed and graded by the Match Review Panel on Monday, but if it is deemed to have made severe impact it will be sent to the Tribunal. It would be a shock if the MRP were to give the forearm strike to the back of Gaff's head anything but the highest grading for impact.
Wednesday, 11 February 2015
Travis Boak will again lead the Power in 2015 with Matthew Lobbe and Brad Ebert serving as vice-captains. Angus Monfries and Robbie Gray have been replaced in the leadership by Ollie Wines. Tom Jonas, Jackson Trengove and Hamish Hartlett will round out Port Adelaide's leadership group for the year.
Sunday, 14 September 2014
Tom Jonas suffers a badly corked hip in the Powers' stirring semi-final win over Fremantle in Perth but teammate Jackson Trengove believes he will play against Hawthorn in their upcoming preliminary final. "Tommy's the ultimate professional so he'll be right for the week," Trengove said. "He copped a really heavy knock, which at the time he couldn't quite get moving. "It was one of those ones that stops you from moving as well as you would have liked, he was still moving around in the changeroom and on the bike, so it wasn't fully stopping him."
Tuesday, 3 June 2014
Tom Jonas has declared himself fit for selection after a month on the sidelines battling the early stages of osteitis pubis. "I've got a bit of osteitis pubis, a few symptoms, so I'm just trying to get on top of that so that come the second half of the season I'm ready to go," Jonas said. "I've spent a lot of time in the pool and on the bike and I've been running for the last three or four sessions. "I've done as much rehab and as much work as I can, I'm feeling really good."
Wednesday, 30 April 2014
Tom Jonas has re-signed with the Power for a further two seasons, tying himself to the Power until at least the end of 2016. "He's now announcing himself as a really strong defender, he can play tall, he can play small," Power coach Ken Hinkley said. "He's an important part of our backline and an important part of our whole football club, so it's really exciting to have him signed on.
"Tom does everything he can to make himself the best player he can be and the best person he can be. "He's the example you want to look for, when you're looking for people who want to get the most out of themselves."
Saturday, 13 August 2011
Thomas Jonas makes his AFL debut for Port Adelaide at the MCG with 9 disposals (2 kicks and 7 handballs), a mark and 4 tackles in a 165-point loss to Hawthorn.
