Geelong delists Nick Bourke, George Burbury, Jordan Schroder, Jackson Sheringham and Jesse Stringer. "We thank Nick, George, Jordan, Jackson and Jesse for their contributions to the club and wish them every success," Geelong football manager Neil Balme said. "It is never easy letting players go, but we hope they receive opportunity at other clubs in the future.
"George, Jordan, Jackson and Jesse all received opportunity at AFL level and played in our 2012 VFL premiership."

Seven weeks after suffering a broken jaw against the Magpies, George Burbury will return to the Cats' side to face Collingwood. "We decided the best way for me to approach it was to attack [the VFL] head on," Burbury said. "So I put my head over the ball in the first contest and I was able to get involved early. "I got absolutely smashed in the first 30 seconds and I suppose that was a really big confidence booster for me. "I copped a really big hit and walked away from that unscathed. "I think that's the way I'll try and go about it against Collingwood, just play my natural game and do what the team asks of me and play my role."

George Burbury hopes to be available for selection as early as round two just nine days after having surgery for a broken jaw. "I don't know, I'd like to say no, and everything will be fine," Burbury said when asked if he would be concerned about his injury when he returns to the side. "I think when you're out there playing AFL, as you all know, you don't have that much time to even think about the decision you make, you've just got to make it and go with it. "I'll just keep playing my natural game."

Scans reveal that George Burbury suffered breaks on both sides of his jaw when he collided with Magpies skipper Nick Maxwell. Despite initial fears that the 21-year-old Tasmanian had also lost some teeth in the incident, scans showed that all his teeth are intact. "It looked terrible, but from what we can gather it's not going to be anywhere near as bad as it looked," Cats football manager Neil Balme said. "He hasn't lost any teeth, so that's a real bonus. "He's a bit too courageous for his own good. We love to see that sort of attitude, but it's a pretty high price to pay for it."

George Burbury will have surgery on his broken jaw after a sickening collision with Pie Nick Maxwell in the Cats' two-point NAB Challenge win over Collingwood at Simonds Stadium. "The feedback from the hospital, while it's still serious and he needs surgery on his jaw it's not as bad as first thought. Fingers crossed, with the way doctors can wire jaws these days, he can get it stabilised pretty quickly," Geelong coach Chris Scott said. "So hopefully there's not too much time on the sidelines. We had eight trainers out there looking for his teeth, they were still in his mouth."

Geelong has announced it will elevate rookies Josh Walker and George Burbury to its senior list for 2014. "Both Josh and George are terrific people who we believe can play significant roles for this football club going forward," Geelong football manager Neil Balme said. "Despite their age, both were leaders in our VFL side and have shown they have the ability to take the step up to regular AFL football."

George Burbury is set to make his debut for the Cats against Port Adelaide in round 9 at AAMI Stadium. "We're really excited that George has been able to work his way up through our rookie list system," Geelong coach Chris Scott said. "Twelve months ago, he was so far away from AFL footy it wasn't funny. "But through hard work and determination, as well as a bit of talent, he's worked his way into our AFL team that's lost one game for the season."

Geelong rookie George Burbury is hoping to be elevated after Daniel Menzel was placed on the long-term injury list. "It's something that I would love and I'm sure that he would love as well, but that's for the coaches and the management to decide," Burbury said. "If I was fortunate enough to get the elevation then I'd be very grateful for it, but if it wasn't me then that's all right, I'll just keep ticking away. "I'll keep working hard at it and hopefully it will happen one day."

Rookie George Burbury impressed during the Cats' NAB Challenge clash with Port Adelaide. "It took me a while to get into it. With my first possession I got the footy and it took a while to sink in that I'd actually got it. Before I knew it, I'd been done for holding the ball," Burbury said. "After that I found my feet and I thought I held my own. I made a few mistakes but I adjusted all right in the end."
