Sam Kerridge has a tempting contract offer in front of him from Carlton and could depart Adelaide. The Blues are reported to be making an aggressive bid for the out-of-contract midfielder, offering what is believed to be a three-year deal. "We had a contract to Sam before the end of the season. I know (list manager Justin Reid) had had several discussions with Winston Rous, his manager," Crows head of football David Noble said. "Carlton are keen, they've offered him a longer-term deal, and we respect Sam's opportunity to look elsewhere. "Should he decide to stay we'd love to keep him – there's no issue there – but if he's looking for opportunity that may be one he's looking to explore."

Sam Kerridge hopes to cement his place as a midfielder in the Crows' side. "I grew up playing as a midfielder and felt I was drafted as a midfielder and someone who can push forward," Kerridge said. "To play in the midfield you've got to be really switched on and know your game and that's something that you learn off the older guys. "It's not so much your fitness and how strong you are and big bodies, it's also your game knowledge – where to position yourself, where to stand."

Sam Kerridge topples endurance king Nathan van Berlo for the first time in the Crows' 2km time trial. Kerridge had been challenging Van Berlo for his crown since he joined Adelaide via pick No.27 in the 2011 NAB AFL draft. Now the 21-year-old running machine has finally claimed bragging rights after he edged out the skipper as the Crows returned to pre-season training at the Adelaide University Loop. "He's finally been knocked off – that's the first time I've seen him go down," teammate Brodie Smith said. "I know Kedge is pretty pumped and VB will be a bit filthy. Kedge has come back really well, and all the boys ran really well and pushed him to the line."

Sam Kerridge says he is relishing his role as Adelaide's run-with player after limiting Gold Coast superstar Gary Ablett to 25 disposals. "We spoke about the fact that he's always going to get the footy and rack up possessions - it was about limiting how damaging those possessions could be," Kerridge said. "We knew if we could limit that, it would hold us in good stead to win the game. "He's got a great ability to keep his feet at the contest, he's always on the move, which means I have to concentrate all the time - if I'm not on my guard, I've lost him and once he's gone he gets possessions. "He's the best at it and has been for a number of years, he's just a great player. It was great to play on him today, I loved it."

"Sam's a quality person and we've known for a while now that he was going to commit and help us build success here."

Sam Kerridge says playing a run-with role on Bulldog Ryan Griffen in just his second game was an invaluable learning experience. "It was good, it was something that allowed me to chase around a very good player for four quarters, or three and a half, just to see how they go about it," Kerridge said. "Just to see where they run, when they run and how they go about it, the decisions they make. [It] was obviously great for my development and something I'll put in the memory bank."
