Isaac Heeney is deemed ineligible to win the Brownlow Medal after copping a one-game ban for a strike on Saint Jimmy Webster. Sydney challenged the ban, claiming that Heeney's incident with Jimmy Webster was careless and not intentional as originally graded by the Match Review Officer. However, after 60 minutes of evidence and 40 minutes of deliberation, Sydney's appeal was unsuccessful.

Jy Simpkin returns to play in his first game since suffering a concussion following a bump from Jimmy Webster and says he has no animosity towards the St Kilda veteran. "The day after it all happened, he reached out and felt a lot of remorse," Simpkin said. "I had a phone call with him for 10 or 15 minutes and we had a good chat. I've got no hard feelings. These things unfortunately happen in football and unfortunately, this time, it happened to me. "They dealt with Jimmy, he got his seven weeks, and everyone will move on from it."

North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson apologises for comments made towards St Kilda players at the quarter-time break during the club's AAMI Community Series match at RSEA Park. Following a heavy bump on Kangaroo Jy Simpkin by Jimmy Webster, Clarkson says he 'voiced his displeasure' towards Webster and Saints defender Dougal Howard, an exchange he conceded on Monday was "unnecessary" and included "inappropriate" language. "I was deeply disturbed seeing our captain Jy Simpkin forced from the field as a result of a heavy collision just before quarter time," Clarkson said in a statement. "Jy has had a great pre-season and has now had three concussions in 12 months and I was so disappointed to see him leave the field in that way."

Jimmy Webster signs a one-year contract extension to remain with St Kilda until the end of 2023. “It’s been a frustrating couple of years for me with injuries — niggly ones and soft tissue — which hasn’t been great, but last year was a pretty positive year for me,” Webster said. “I felt like I played some pretty good footy and was pretty consistent, but the couple of years before that was pretty frustrating. It was hard to get back into the team. We were going pretty well up in Noosa (St Kilda’s hub in 2020), but I just kept fighting my way and I was lucky enough last season to fight my way back in.”

The Match Review Panel on Monday deemed Webster made "unreasonable and unnecessary contact" to Suban's eye, assessing the incident as intentional conduct with medium impact to the head. Slow-motion replays captured Webster first making contact with Suban's ear region before he reached over again using his right thumb to poke the Docker's left eye, which forced his opponent to ground.

Jimmy Webster will not play another game this season after suffering a hamstring strain at training. Webster, 23, injured the muscle in his right leg. It was a strain to his left hamstring that kept him out of football for five weeks earlier this year. "Jimmy experienced a low-grade hamstring strain to his right leg during training on Thursday, which is a different leg to the one he injured mid-year," Saints football manager Jamie Cox said. "We will use the remaining couple of weeks of the season to ensure Jimmy fully recovers and rehabilitates, and is fully fit day one of pre-season."
