Alex Sexton re-signs with Gold Coast and will remain at the club until the end of 2019.
Sexton was in good form for the Suns before he was struck down with the club's injury curse, breaking his arm in round seven.
"He has outstanding character, has shown great football promise, and will boast a bright future on the Gold Coast for years to come," Suns list manager Scott Clayton said.
Sexton said playing at a club so close to home made it an easy decision for him to re-commit to the club and he expected the Suns to work their way through this difficult period.
"Even though we are being challenged at the moment, I see an exciting future ahead, and believe the club is heading in the right direction. We really do have such a unique opportunity to achieve something special for this city," Sexton said.
"To have the opportunity to live out my AFL dream so close to family and friends is something I don’t take for granted, and am committed to helping this team reach the ultimate success."
