Former Collingwood rookie Lachlan Smith shapes as a possible smokey as clubs finalise their plans ahead of this week's NAB AFL Draft.

The 24-year-old lasted only one season with the Magpies after being taken as a rookie at the end of 2011.

But after starring for Kyabram in 2017 in the Goulburn Valley League in country Victoria this year, Smith has caught the attention of AFL scouts and is understood to have nominated for the national draft.

Just days after the season ended for Collingwood's VFL team, American Shae McNamara becomes one of five delisted rookies that also include Irishman Paul Cribbin, Daniel Farmer, Lachlan Smith and Trent Stubbs.

"Football, at this level, has to be a way of life and all of the boys committed to that, which we thank them for," Collingwood director of football Geoff Walsh said.

"We certainly hope they find success with whatever it is they choose to take on next."
