"It is never easy letting players go, but we hope they receive opportunity at other clubs in the future.


"George, Jordan, Jackson and Jesse all received opportunity at AFL level and played in our 2012 VFL premiership."


Jackson Sheringham will miss a month of football after having knee surgery.

"We expect Jackson to play AFL football this year," Cats coach Chris Scott said.

"He's a rookie at the moment, but we're expecting to need him.

"He's been good through the NAB series, so it doesn't make sense to us to have young players pushing through injuries that if we manage now we can get fixed within two or three weeks."

After making his debut for the Cats last year, Jackson Sheringham says he has grown in confidence and just needs to take his opportunities when they arise.

"Having had a taste of it last year, I feel that I can definitely play at that level now," Sheringham said.

"I've been doing everything I can during the pre-season to be ready if the opportunity does arise. If I get the opportunity, I feel I'm ready to step up and make the most of it."

Jackson Sheringham makes his AFL debut for Geelong at the MCG with 6 disposals (3 kicks and 3 handballs) and a goal in a 31-point loss to Collingwood.

Geelong has elevated teenage big man Josh Walker and mature-age midfielder Jackson Sheringham to its senior list.

"I had a really good pre-season and played a couple of games in the NAB Cup, which really helped my confidence," Walker said.

"Since then I've had a lot more confidence in myself to go for my marks and take the game on. I think it's showing in the amount of marks I'm taking this year compared to last year."

Rookie listed Cat Jackson Sheringham is balancing his football dream with studying physiotherapy.

Sheringham decided to leave the Cats' VFL team last year to focus on his studies.

"I was living up in Melbourne and it was really hard for me to get back down to Geelong for training," he said.

"I thought I would concentrate on my studies for the year, then I knew I would have placements down in Geelong this year, which would make it a lot easier for me to come and train down here."
