After an impressive season as a mature-aged rookie in 2012, James Magner says he does not know why he only managed two games in 2013 before being delisted by the Demons.

"It's really hard to tell," Magner told SEN radio.

"Some other midfielders came in and I suppose the competition increased. I thought I was playing some good footy but obviously struggling to get a game this season."

"I'm super-appreciative of the opportunity Melbourne have given me," said Magner.

"[I'll] use every avenue I can to get the best out of myself and then hopefully the on-field stuff will look after itself. I just want to go out and play my natural game, which is aggressive. I think if I do all the basic things then the rest will come."
