The Sydney Swans delist Brandon Jack, Tyrone Leonardis and Michael Talia, while rookie Shaun Edwards has announced his retirement after 24 AFL games.

Sydney forward Shaun Edwards will have the chance to represent his third AFL club after he was upgraded from the rookie list ahead of the club's round one clash against Port Adelaide at the SCG.

Shaun Edwards hopes to make the most of his opportunities at Sydney, his third AFL club.

"I faced a lot of challenges in my time at the Giants and the Bombers but I think I've learned from them, and now I'm just trying to push forward and make my home here," Edwards said.

"That chapter is closed now and what matters is what's happening inside the four walls at the Swans, so I'm just focused on the 'now'.

"I was only 22 when I got delisted (by Essendon) so I definitely thought I still had a few years left in the bank, and I'll be forever grateful to the Swans for giving me a third opportunity."

Shaun Edwards is delisted by Essendon.

Edwards managed just 12 games at the Bombers since crossing to the club at the end of 2013 after two years and 12 senior appearances at Greater Western Sydney.

"Shaun is a great role model who constantly strives to make a difference both on and off the field," Essendon football manager Rob Kerr said.

"He is well respected by his teammates and will always be welcome at Essendon. On behalf of everyone at the club we wish him all the very best for his future."

A focus on improving his approach to training has Essendon's Shaun Edwards set for a more productive second season at the club in 2015.

"The thing I've really liked about Shaun this pre-season is, I think there's starting to be a change in mentality," Bombers high performance football manager Neil Craig said.

"I think he's starting to develop an elite mindset about what's required to be able to perform at this level, and sometimes it takes different individuals different amounts of time to be able to get that picture in their head."

Essendon recruit Shaun Edwards says he sought a move to Melbourne reinvigorate his career.

"I sat down with my manager, my family and friends and really thought that I needed to get back to Melbourne to put my best foot forward in footy and surround myself with good people," Edwards said.

"I was lucky enough with [Essendon] being a great club that they gave me the opportunity and I just grabbed it with both hands."

GWS youngsters Kurt Aylett and Shaun Edwards are traded to Essendon in exchage for pick 48.
