Sydney inducts a trio of players into its hall of fame, with modern-day premiership stars Ryan O'Keefe and Lewis Roberts-Thomson receiving the honour along with VFA flag hero Denis McKay.

Wednesday, 24 September 2014

Ryan O'Keefe has officially called time on his career, retiring after 286 games and two premierships with the Sydney Swans.

O'Keefe and fellow Swans retiree Lewis Roberts-Thomson will be now be part of Saturday's Grand Final motorcade at the MCG.

"It's fitting that two great premiership players of our club will be sent off with a lap of honour at the MCG on Grand Final day," Swans coach John Longmire said.

"Both Ryan and Lewis are life members of the Swans and were part of the 2005 and 2012 premiership success.

"Swans fans have had their chance to thank Ryan and Lewis and this is another opportunity for all football fans to thank two absolute warriors who always saved their best for September."

Lewis Roberts-Thomson announces his immediate retirement from the game.

After his 2013 season was all but wiped out by a serious knee injury, Roberts-Thomson has played just five games this season, spending the past six weeks in the NEAFL.

"'Lewie' has been an outstanding competitor for a long period of time," Sydney coach John Longmire said.

"One of his great assets has been his ability and willingness to adapt to any role he has been given.

"There is not a position on the ground that Lewie hasn't played in over the course of his career."

"LRT has been a fan favourite – perhaps even a cult figure – and I'm sure all our fans are thankful for his wonderful contribution to this club."

Tuesday, 21 January 2014

Lewis Roberts-Thompson is set to return to full training after eight months out.

"Starting back a few weeks ago just after Christmas, I've really worked hard on my fitness and my strength, and the knee seems to be feeling pretty good," he said.

"I'm just progressing into some skill work now and hopefully I'll be right for practice matches in a couple of weeks."

Tuesday, 9 July 2013

The Swans are pessimistic about Lewis Roberts-Thomson's chances of playing again 2013.

"We thought he'd be back after the bye, but he's got some bone bruising in his knee and it's just taking a long time to heal," Sydney coach John Longmire said.

"He's not running, so he's a fair way off senior footy.

"I'm not writing him off yet, we're still hopeful that he'll get back, but he needs everything going right from now on in."

Lewis Roberts-Thomson's knee injury is worse than first suspected, with the Swans utility to miss the next six to eight weeks after an arthroscope revealed more joint surface cartilage damage in his right knee.

"We need to tidy that up a little bit, which means he will be out for a little bit longer," Cameron told the club's website," Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron said.

"It's an injury that can really be a little bit unpredictable and one we have to be a little bit more careful with, so it could even push out to eight weeks with him out of the game."

Saturday, 22 December 2012

Veterans Ted Richards and Lewis Roberts-Thomson will be Swans for life after signing new deals that will keep them at Sydney until the end of 2014.

"Ted is coming off a personal best season in 2012 that saw him named All Australian after playing on some of the game's biggest and best forwards," Sydney Swans general manager Dean Moore said.

"He is an important member of our leadership group, so it is pleasing to have him re-sign.

"Lewis is born and bred here in New South Wales and is a club life member so we are obviously very excited to have him extend his career at the Swans."

Monday, 20 December 2010

Sydney Swans defender Lewis Roberts-Thomson has had minor surgery on his glute but will still be ready for round one.

"It was only minor surgery and we expect Lewis to be running in four weeks and back training with the main group in about eight weeks," Swans coach John Longmire said.
