Troy Menzel Biography

Saturday, 7 October 2017

Adelaide delist Troy Menzel and Dean Gore.

"Troy and Dean both bought in to our team-first culture and can be proud of the way they have carried themselves," Crows operations manager Brett Burton said.

"We wish them all the very best for the future."

Adelaide assistant coach David Teague says Troy Menzel is primed to make an impact for the Crows in 2017.

"He had the right approach last year, it was just he came off a hip operation so he was just a bit behind the eight ball," Teague said.

"The way he approached it last year was outstanding, everything we asked of him he did.

"But he has built on that. He has had a full pre-season and now you can see he's playing good football."

Adelaide coach Don Pyke says Troy Menzel has given himself every opportunity to make an impact in 2017 after failing to play a senior game last year.

"He didn't have the year he wanted last year, but he's done a chunk of work and he's owned that," Pyke said.

"Talking to him as late as this morning, he's got a really firm resolve what he wants out of his footy, which is a great step forward for Troy.

"He was chasing his tail for a fair chunk of the year in terms of conditioning and he's addressed that, so it's a fresh start that he has tomorrow night."

Josh Jenkins says former Blue and new Crows teammate Troy Menzel will have to work hard to find a place in Adelaide's forward line.

"I don't think they would have pursued [Menzel] if they didn't think he could make an impact in our group straight away – but there are certainly no walk-up starts in that forward line," Jenkins said.

"He's got plenty of work to do in terms of his fitness coming off some injuries so at the moment he's just got his head down and bum up trying to impress the coaching staff and impress the playing group.

"You only have to look around – Walker, Betts, Lynch, Charlie Cameron's not far away…you start to lock away a few spots and you realise there's only two or three left."

Wednesday, 21 October 2015

Troy Menzel has been traded to Adelaide for Sam Kerridge, in a deal that has paved the way for the Blues to pick up four Giants youngsters.

Menzel, the No.11 pick in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft, joined Adelaide in exchange for Kerridge and pick No.28 at lunchtime on Wednesday.

In a separate deal, the Blues then on-traded pick No.28 together with No.77, 95 and Geelong's 2016 first-round pick (acquired in the Lachie Henderson trade) to Greater Western Sydney for Lachie Plowman, Jed Lamb, Andrew Phillips and Liam Sumner and pick No.8.

Troy Menzel has escaped serious injury to his reconstructed right knee with scans showing he suffered no more than bone bruising in Carlton's win over Gold Coast.

Sunday, 1 February 2015

Troy Menzel says he feels confident with the ball in his hands when the game's on the line.

"I guess I've always taken to pressure, I've always kind of enjoyed it," Menzel said.

"So when I am put in those situations I don't really shy away from it, I'd rather take the shot myself."

Friday, 15 August 2014

Fresh from signing a two-year deal with Carlton, Troy Menzel says he aspires to be a future leader at the club.

"I've grown up seeing myself as a leader," Menzel said.

"Being able to play at such a prestigious club is something you dream of as a kid and I'm very honoured to do it."

Monday, 7 July 2014

Troy Menzel is the round 16 NAB AFL Rising Star after kicking two goals and taking eight marks in the Blues' thumping 85-point win over St Kilda.

"I thought I started off quite well in the first half. I was involved in a bit and managed to kick a couple, but we were getting very good service down in the forward line so it was good to get on the end of a few," Menzel said about his game.

Friday, 9 August 2013

Troy Menzel says he is confident that knee injuries that plagued his junior days are no longer an issue for him.

"The knees have been rock-solid. I've got great confidence in them, especially the LARS one, which has been great since the operation," Menzel said.

"They weren't structural injuries; they've been unlucky ones caused by impact. I don't think I've got too much to worry about structurally, as long as I'm doing the right weights. Those kinds of injuries could happen to anyone, and I don't think I'm any more likely to have another one than anyone else.

"I don't even think about my knees when I'm training and playing. If you do, you're not focusing on what you should be doing."

Sunday, 19 May 2013

Troy Menzel makes his AFL debut for Carlton at Docklands Stadium with 1 disposals (a kick) and a tackle in a 18-point win over Port Adelaide.

Monday, 3 December 2012

New Blue Troy Menzel says he and his family heavily researched synthetic grafts before he chose LARS surgery as a 16-year-old.

"I was a suitable candidate and came to the conclusion that I would go for it," Menzel said.

"I knew I wasn't going to play at the end of that year, but it gave me seven or eight months [to get ready for the next season].

"If I'd had a normal knee 'reco' I wouldn't have been playing round one the next year. And [I] pulled up for round one and haven't had any problems with it [since]."
