Port Adelaide opts for an unchanged leadership group, with Tom Jonas to captain the side for a fifth season in 2023.

The 203-game defender will be supported by vice-captain Ollie Wines and Darcy Byrne-Jones as part of the three-man leadership group.

"It is something I have never taken for granted, particularly because of the incredible people that have come before me and the strong group of leaders we currently have at the club," Jonas said.

"It means a lot to again be trusted to lead this group."

Tom Jonas will continue to captain Port Adelaide in 2022 and will be supported by Ollie Wines and Darcy Byrne-Jones in a streamlined three-man leadership group.

"He leads by example on and off the field and drives the standards expected of those who represent the Port Adelaide Football Club," Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley said of Jonas.

"Ollie and Darcy have been a wonderful support for Tom and each of them brings unique skills and perspectives to the leadership group."

Friday, 4 October 2019

Travis Boak wins his second John Cahill Medal as Port Adelaide's best and fairest player for 2019.

The 31-year-old polled 179 votes to finish 11 votes ahead of defender Darcy Byrne-Jones, who was a further vote clear of third-placed Dan Houston.

The medal caps a brilliant 13th season for Boak, who played 21 games and averaged 30 disposals and five clearances.

"There's been a lot of people write me off the last two or three years and say I shouldn't even be in the side," Boak told the Port Adelaide faithful.

"It's not nice to hear those things, they certainly hurt a little but for me it's about going out there and just trying to be the best person, the best player you can be and that's all I can do."

Monday, 26 March 2018

Darcy Byrne-Jones signs a two-year contract extension to remain at Port Adelaide until the end of 2020.

"Darcy has become an important part of our young backline," Power football manager Chris Davies said.

"He takes a role each week on a dangerous small forward and continues to develop the attacking side of his game."

Wednesday, 24 August 2016

Darcy Byrne-Jones re-signs with the Power until the end of 2018.

"Playing my first AFL game earlier in the year was a dream come true and it's been a thrill getting the chance to go out and play all season," Byrne-Jones said.

"I've learned a lot from my coaches and senior teammates down back, and I've still got plenty more to do."

Power coach Ken Hinkley said Byrne-Jones had deserved his chance to nail down a spot in the senior side.

"You know what a player like Darcy is going to give you every time, when he crosses that line he gives you 100 per cent," Hinkley said.

"I don't think anyone would say 'Darce' hasn’t earned his place in our team this year, but that comes from two years of really strong, hard work in the SANFL and during pre-season.

"He's only played his first year of AFL footy, but he handles himself well out there and we've been really comfortable with giving him some important jobs to do."

Monday, 30 May 2016

Darcy Byrne-Jones earns the round 10 nomination for the 2016 NAB AFL Rising Star award after tallying 23 disposals while keeping Melbourne's Jeff Garlett to just 9 disposals and a goal.

"Jeff's an elite AFL small forward. I had my work cut out for me but I just tried to stay on the job for the whole game," Byrne-Jones said.

"He's a very quick bloke so I just tried to get physical on him and keep him away from the contest.

"He kicks a lot of his goals running back inside 50 with space in front of him, so I just tried to stay between him and the goals and take that out of his game."

Friday, 8 April 2016

Darcy Byrne-Jones makes his AFL debut for Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval with 14 disposals (7 kicks and 7 handballs), a mark, a tackle and a goal in a 61-point win over Essendon.

Friday, 10 April 2015

Port Adelaide re-signs emerging pair Karl Amon and Darcy Byrne-Jones until the end of the 2017 season.

"They've got big futures with the club and in the AFL system and that's why they've been rewarded with new contracts," assistant coach Aaron Greaves said.

"They've put on size, both now train and behave like elite AFL footballers, and have developed elite habits.

"Karl has shown good progression over pre-season and is able to transfer his training into games, which is going to help him achieve consistency.

"Darcy still continues to learn and work on his role, and he is working hard to take what he learns and apply it on game day as well."
