Mitch Honeychurch will spend the night in Perth amid fears he injured his neck after copping a high bump from West Coast skipper Shannon Hurn at Optus Stadium.

"The early indications are that he should be OK. Hopefully (tonight) he'll have a scan and we'll get news that he's fine," Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said.

"It's hard to speculate on what it may be but he's going to stay here and we'll take him home tomorrow."

Mitch Honeychurch says he was tempted by an offer to move to the Giants, before deciding to stay with the Bulldogs for 2018.

"I didn't have a contract in front of me at the end of last year from the Bulldogs, so GWS came knocking on the door," Honeychurch said.

"I was thinking of going up there, and they needed a small forward, but it didn't eventuate, and the Bulldogs ended up offering me a one-year contract.

"It's was a tough one because moving up to Sydney would have been a pretty big move and I was pretty keen to stay with the club."

Greater Western Sydney emerges as a possible suitor for uncontracted Western Bulldog Mitch Honeychurch.

The Bulldogs have held off on making a decision on Honeychurch's future until the end of 2017 NAB AFL Trade Period, but the 22-year-old would prefer to make a fresh start at a new club after playing 22 games in four seasons at the Whitten Oval.

The future of Mitch Honeychurch won't be decided until after next month's free agency and trade periods.

The out-of-contract 22-year-old has been told by the Bulldogs that they cannot offer him a new deal until they know how many spots they'll have on their list following the NAB AFL free agency and trade windows.

Mitch Honeychurch is battling a facial infection that has seen him hospitalised several times over the past week.

"He's had an infection, been really crook and been in and out of hospital," Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge said.

"His energy is down, he's virtually got none, and it might take him a little while to recover, unfortunately."

Seeing fellow Bulldogs draftee Marcus Bontempelli make his mark in the AFL with a NAB Rising Star nomination in round 13 has been a major driving factor for debutant Mitch Honeychurch.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder will make his debut on Sunday against Melbourne after a number of standout performances in the VFL for Footscray which has seen him average four goals in his past three outings.

"It did make me want it more," Honeychurch said.

"Marcus obviously played some very good football early on in the season and got his reward with six or seven AFL games now. That was definitely a driving factor for me.

"We're pretty competitive and we always want the same as each other. It was pretty good watching him out there at AFL level and I'm just looking forward to joining him out there on Sunday."

Thursday, 26 June 2014

Mitch Honeychurch will make his much-anticipated debut on Sunday when his side faces Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

The Bulldogs pick No.60 in last year's NAB AFL Draft has consistently been one of the club's best performers in the VFL for Footscray this season, and has finally been rewarded.

"We're looking forward to Mitch playing," Bulldogs coach Brendan McCartney said.

"We don't expect anything grand from him but we're confident we've found a really good long-term player.

"He's competitive, he's a goal kicker. He just plays footy with a great intensity."
