Brisbane has cut five players from its list, led by experienced trio Tom Bell, Rohan Bewick and Claye Beams.

The Lions have also delisted utility Marco Paparone and rookie-listed midfielder Jake Barrett.

None of the five played regular senior footy in 2018, but the cull means some age and games experience leaves the club.

Barrett, a NSW zone selection back in 2013, has played just one match for the Giants when he made his debut in round 23 last season.

"They haven't said he (Barrett) doesn't have a future at the Giants, but they're pretty realistic in saying that if there is an opportunity somewhere else they would be happy to look at something there for him," Barrett's manager Dave Trotter said.

"We're hoping something pops up for him as this period gets underway."

While admitting at times it's been tough being overlooked by the selectors week after week, Barrett said he always maintained his belief that he would debut in 2015.

"The coaches have been really supportive, they just said 'keep working on this and that' and I just took it on board and kept at it and eventually got my turn," Barrett said.

"Obviously you want to get frustrated sometimes but you just keep doing what you're doing each week, don't change anything and just think your time will come and keep having that good head space."
