Daniel McKenzie Biography

Wednesday, 8 November 2023

St Kilda will delist Dan McKenzie this week but the door remains open for the luckless wingman to secure another contract with the Saints.

McKenzie hasn't played at AFL level since round 13, 2022 and only managed two VFL appearances this year due to persistent calf strains that led to a recent trip to see world-renowned soft tissue specialist Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt in Germany.

McKenzie has been completing the off-season program at RSEA Park since returning to Melbourne and is expected to begin a modified pre-season program when the club's first-to-fourth-year players return to training later this month.

St Kilda is understood to be open to selecting McKenzie during the pre-season supplemental selection period, but need to see the Caulfield Grammar product prove his fitness across a block of the pre-season before re-signing him for 2024.

Tuesday, 7 May 2019

Daniel McKenzie signs a new three-year deal with St Kilda to remain at the club until the end of 2022.

"His competitiveness is probably No.1. He just cracks in every minute of the game all the time, which you noticed last year, even though we weren't going well. He was flying the flag for 120 minutes. That's probably his bread and butter," Saints defensive coach Henry Playfair said.

"Outside of that, he's versatile, he can play on talls and smalls, he's got good pace, he's got a good leap, he can intercept mark it and his direction is really good. His voice is awesome across the ground."

Trent McKenzie joins Port Adelaide as a delisted free agent.

Monday, 20 March 2017

Daniel McKenzie signs a new two-year deal with St Kilda that will keep him at the club until the end of 2019.

"To get that confirmed at the start of the year is really good for the self-confidence. Now I can just go out and play my game without having to worry about what’s happening in the future," McKenzie said.

Tuesday, 30 June 2015

Daniel McKenzie signs a one-year extension with the Saints that will keep him at the club until the end of 2017.

"It's awesome to sign with St Kilda because we have such a young and exciting list," McKenzie said.

"What excites me most is the young talent coming through. There is a lot of room for development and I think we've shown our potential in some games early in the season."

Sunday, 3 May 2015

Daniel McKenzie makes his AFL debut for St Kilda at Docklands Stadium with 13 disposals (3 kicks and 10 handballs), 4 marks and 4 tackles in a 2-point loss to Essendon.

Friday, 28 November 2014

St Kilda selects Daniel McKenzie with pick No.22 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

"We were very impressed with Daniel's year at the Oakleigh Chargers," Saints acting football manager Ameet Bains said.

He's battled a few different injuries but in terms of his athletic profile, his speed, agility and endurance, it was in the real elite bracket at the combine and that combined with his football and his ability to play half-back, midfield and half forward was something that really appealed."
