Daniel Howe announces his retirement after nine seasons at Hawthorn and North Melbourne. "Dan has only been at the club for one season, but he's had a significant impact on the group in his time here," North footy boss Todd Viney said. "He brought a professional attitude to his training and preparation, and gave his all in every game he played, whether at AFL or VFL level. "At the end of the season Dan had a chat with Clarko about what 2024 looked like and he decided it was in his best interests to prioritise life beyond AFL football."

Mystery continues to surround first-choice Hawthorn midfielder Dan Howe's injury status ahead of the Hawks' 2019 season opener. Josh Caddy says he is regretful over calling Hawk Daniel Howe a "spastic" during the Tiger's qualifying final against Hawthorn at the MCG. Caddy apologised on Instagram on after his profanity-laden sledge towards Howe was picked up by on-field microphones. "The insensitive comments were made in the heat of the moment but that is no excuse and I accept that the language over-stepped the mark, was a terrible look, and is totally unacceptable," Caddy said. "For that, I am truly sorry."

Daniel Howe is slapped with a three-week ban for tripping Carlton's Zac Fisher at the AFL Tribunal. In conjunction with his two-week ban for striking Patrick Cripps in the same game, Howe will now miss Hawthorn's final five games of the home and away season through suspension. It means the only way Howe will play again this season is if the Hawks make the finals.

Daniel Howe is cementing a spot in the Hawks' best 22 as a tagger in 2017. "It's not too often you get to play against the best players in the opposition," Howe said. "So even if a couple of times they got on top of me – a couple of quarters they have – the challenge of doing it and setting myself to do it is really enjoyable, especially when you go OK."

Daniel Howe says guidance from Hawthorn's senior players have helped him feel more at home at the club. "There's so many great outlets you can seek out. Sam Mitchell has probably been the biggest one for me, but also Luke Hodge and Josh Gibson," Howe said. "(Having) those sort of guys around the club makes a massive difference on game day and learning your craft on the track. "It definitely helps."

Daniel Howe extends his contract with the Hawks by a further two years, tying him to the club until the end of 2018. The Hawks' first selection from last year's NAB AFL Draft (No.31), Howe played four games in his first season and said it was an easy decision to sign the extension. "It’s a great place and there were no hesitations in signing," Howe said. "The boys obviously won the premiership last year, and hopefully I can be a part of the success (in the future)."

Hawthorn select Daniel Howe with pick No.31 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft. "A good kick, we're hopeful that in time he can push into the midfield," Hawthorn recruiting manager Graham Wright said. "He has great courage and good awareness of what is around him. A quiet kid, we think he'll suit our group by coming in and working hard."
Murray Bushranger's TAC Cup coach Darren Ogier says Daniel Howe's response to missing out on selection in last year's draft is a testament to his character. After a year of hard work, Howe was selected by the reigning premiers with pick 31 in the 2014 NAB AFK Draft. "The way that he handled missing out was pretty much 'oh well, I missed out and now I've got to improve and just work harder to be better' and that's what he did," Ogier said. "From day one he meant business and he just continued to improve the harder he worked. He's hopefully going to be a great acquisition for Hawthorn."
