Sydney delists James Rose who played 14 games since being drafted at pick No.37 in 2014.

"James was a great character to have around the club and showed great perseverance during his time in Sydney," Sydney football manager Charlie Gardiner said.

James Rose and Jack Maibaum re-sign with Sydney to remain at the club in 2019.

"Both James and Jack have been consistent performers in the NEAFL for a long time and are knocking on the door of senior selection," Sydney football manager Tom Harley said.

"It'll be good to see the pair put in another solid pre-season and continue to push for more senior opportunities next season."

James Rose signs a two-year contract extension that will keep him at Sydney until the end of 2018.

Rose said new forward coach Brett Kirk is demanding the emerging youngster lift his defensive work-rate.

"I'm just really getting to know the new structures and where my role sits," Rose said.

"Defensive pressure is something I need to work on, with that comes an increased fitness level, so hopefully I can knock those off before round one."

Sydney select James Rose from Sturt with pick No.70 in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

"He played a lot of footy for Sturt reserves this year," Swans general manager of football Tom Harley said.

"James plays predominantly as a hard-working half-forward. We really like his intensity and scope for improvement.

"We think we've got a really good, versatile player that can play a number of roles."
