Ed Langdon Biography

Tuesday, 5 April 2022

Ed Langdon is the winner of the goal of the year for round three of 2022.

Monday, 18 November 2019

Ed Langdon explains his decision to join Melbourne after crossing over from the Dockers.

"I wanted to be at a big Melbourne club; mum and dad live across the road; my brother (Magpie Tom Langdon)'s obviously next door; and I knew I'd be living in the city," Langdon said.

"Plus, the way the Demons played two years ago was unbelievable and just to be part of that again this year, hopefully, is an exciting prospect."

Friday, 11 October 2019

Ed Langdon joins Melbourne after the Demons agreed to a trade with Fremantle.

The Demons handed over picks No.22, 79 and a future second-round selection for the 23-year-old, while the Dockers gave up Langdon, pick No.26 and a future fourth-round selection.

Fresh off consecutive top-five Doig Medal finishes, Langdon departs the Dockers after playing 68 games and kicking 33 goals.

"We have been impressed by Ed’s development particularly over the past two years, where he has really established himself in the competition," Demons football boss Josh Mahoney said.

"Ed is a ready-made player who will be a long-term prospect for the Melbourne Football Club, so that’s really exciting for us.

"Ed’s running capacity is in the top echelon of the league and that is evident in games."

Emerging Fremantle star Ed Langdon puts contract talks on hold until season's end, opening the door for Victorian clubs to ramp up their pursuit for his signature.

While the Dockers have pitched a long-term deal to the 23-year-old, all negotiations have been parked until at least September.

Melbourne is understood to be one of the leading contenders attempting to lure Langdon back home to Victoria next season and add outside speed to its midfield.

Industry sources believe Langdon could command up to $500-550,000 per season on the open market.

Thursday, 18 April 2019

Ed Langdon says he won't start negotiations over a new deal at the Dockers until the second half of the 2019 season.

Langdon has previously been the subject of speculation about a move back to Victoria, particularly from Collingwood, where his brother Tom Langdon plays.

"I don't think I'll really address it until the end of the year, I don't want to complicate my footy too much at the moment," Ed said.

"I've played a few games with my brother, and you're always going to want to play with your brother, that's pretty natural. But it's not something I'll be considering anytime soon."

Sunday, 29 July 2018

After experiencing the tough times at Fremantle, wingman Ed Langdon wants to stick around for when the rebuilding Dockers re-emerge as a finals force.

Langdon has taken a major stride forward in 2018, with the line-breaking dasher averaging a career-high 22 disposals and cementing his spot in coach Ross Lyon's best side.

"The longer you stay at the club the more invested you become in the culture and everything that's involved in the footy club," Langdon said.

"Going through those tough times together you definitely want to be there when you are playing finals and when there's a lot of success at the club."

Saturday, 13 January 2018

Ed Langdon says he is using teammate and Fremantle club champion Brad Hill as the barometer for his own performance at the club.

"Brad Hill's been huge for me last year and again this pre-season," Langdon said.

"I'm picking his brains as much as I can and I try and train with him to pick up those patterns that he runs.

"I just want to have an injury-free year and improve as much as I can."

Monday, 14 August 2017

Ed Langdon signs a new two-year deal with Fremantle that will keep him at the club until the end of 2019.

"Ed has an elite running capacity and in the senior games he's played over the last couple of years he's shown the ability to find the ball and impact games in key moments," list manager Brad Lloyd said of Langdon.

"We're thrilled to see Ed continue at the club and look forward to watching him develop and become an important member of the senior team."

Tuesday, 1 August 2017

Ed Langdon will undergo surgery for his knee which will rule him out for the rest of the 2017 season.

Langdon has been out for almost two months after suffering an injury to the posterior cruciate ligament in a knee.

Tuesday, 20 September 2016

Ed Langdon resists a move back to Victoria, signing a new one-year deal with the Dockers to remain at the club in 2017.

While Langdon has only signed for one year, he said there was no specific reason as to why he had not signed for longer.

"That's just the agreement the club and I came to," Langdon said.

"It works out well for both parties. The club is really happy to have me, which is great, and I'm really happy to be here next year.

"I just left it with my manager and said come back with the best deal the club will offer, and that's what he came back with."

Sunday, 30 August 2015

Ed Langdon makes his AFL debut for Fremantle with 18 disposals (11 kicks and 7 handballs), 6 marks and 3 tackles in a 54-point win over Melbourne.

Friday, 28 November 2014

Edward Langdon is selected with pick No.54 by Fremantle in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft.

"He can run and work hard, like Josh. He's just an elite runner who can find the footy and really cover the ground," Dockers general manager of player management Brad Lloyd said.

"He's got a strong level of speed and endurance, which really suits the way we play so to get him in with the way he's able to cover the ground really adds to us."
