Paddy Brophy Biography

West Coast international rookie Paddy Brophy has walked away from his bid to make it in the AFL and decided to return to Ireland.

Brophy sat out East Perth's win over Perth at the weekend to decide his future and told teammates on Tuesday that he was moving home.

"I am going home for personal reasons, including homesickness, but I have really enjoyed my time at the club," Brophy said.

"I will always be grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity. It has been a great experience, but I’ll go back home, continue my university studies and play Gaelic football."

West Coast rookies Simon Tunbridge, Jordan Snadden and Paddy Brophy sign one-year deals to remain at the club in 2017.

"Simon , Jordan and Paddy are all quality young men who are developing well and we look forward to them continuing to grow in 2017," West Coast general manager of football Craig Vozzo said.

West Coast select Paddy Brophy with pick No.45 at the 2014 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

"I first met with Paddy in London in 2013 when he played for the European Legion against the AFL Academy, he showed some raw talent in that game and looked to have some great attributes to work with," general manager of football Craig Vozzo said.

"I was impressed with his enthusiasm for the contest and the way he maintained his work rate, despite having played a game of Gaelic football for his county just two days before."
