Reuben William Biography

Reuben William has been caught drink driving after failing a random breath test.

The 19-year-old, driving on a probationary license, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.031.

Queensland law requires a reading of 0.00 for probationary license holders.

Williams was on a scheduled day off and informed Lions general manager of football David Noble shortly after the incident.

William will appear in court in the coming weeks.

South Sudanese Brisbane rookie Reuben William will make his debut this week against Gold Coast.

"I really don't know what to say. I wasn't really expecting this so it's caught me a bit off guard," William said.

"I'll go out there and put on the jumper with pride."

South Sudanese speedster Reuben William has come from a long way back to be in the frame for next month's NAB AFL Draft.

When William was an infant, his father Deng was among two million people to die during Sudan's civil war, which ravaged their homeland from 1983-2005.

William can't remember his father.

The family lived in South Sudan, where the war started and which remained a hotbed of conflict.

Reuben William's mother Veronica did it hard with her five children, of which Reuben was the second-youngest.

"Mum is always telling us how hard life was (back in Sudan)," William said.

"She worked in construction so she'd have to carry three bricks on her head to carry them from one site to another.

"What she had to do just to get money to feed us was really tough. She's sacrificed heaps for us – and she still does – and we'll always be grateful for that."
