After 73 AFL games for two clubs, Lions defender Marcus Adams announces his retirement after being advised he should not compete again in contact sport. Adams suffered a delayed concussion following a match against Carlton last August and has not played since. "While no part of me really wants to let it go, I know it's the right decision for me," he said. "The whole journey is something I will remember very fondly, and even though it hasn't ended how I would've liked, it has been the best experience I could have hoped for."

Brisbane has moved defender Marcus Adams to the Inactive List as he recovers from a concussion sustained in round 21 of 2022. "Unfortunately, Marcus is dealing with a serious injury that will unlikely see him play in 2023," said Brisbane's GM of Football, Danny Daly. "While he is making some progress in his recovery from concussion, he continues to experience symptoms and his health and wellbeing remains the top priority."

Marcus Adams will miss a month of football after suffering a stress reaction in his foot.
Wednesday, 23 June 2021
Marcus Adams will this week be playing in his 50th game and in his 12th successive match, the most of any stretch during his AFL career. It's something he didn't think he'd be doing earlier this year after battling to overcome a broken foot that wiped out most of his 2020 campaign. "Four or five months ago I probably thought I was never going to play another AFL game," he said. "I don't necessarily look at anything too far in advance, it's very much a week-by-week proposition."

Marcus Adams admits he feels guilty for not contributing in Brisbane as he enters his sixth season without ever playing more than 11 games in a single campaign. Plagued by foot and knee injuries during his time at the Lions and Western Bulldogs before that, Adams is off-contract beyond 2021 but is finally fit as he eyes a permanent spot in Brisbane's backline. "I was getting sick of it; I've been running laps for two years so I was pretty fed up with it," Adams said. "It's pretty hard to see the guys going so well and not being part of it; it's not bitterness but jealously that I definitely felt at times. "Coming off contract makes this an increasingly important season, but I feel a sense of guilt that I haven't been able to contribute on the field. I want to repay that faith (shown to recruit me in 2019) and haven't been able to at this point, so this year I'm hoping it can be the year."

After undergoing a foot operation in round one, Marcus Adams will be sidelined for a further two months after scans revealed a stress reaction. "We did a bit of investigation and that's going to take a little bit longer than we thought, so he might be another six to eight weeks just to let that settle," Brisbane's high performance manager Damien Austin said of Adams.

Marcus Adams says a one-punch attack that almost claimed the life of his older brother Luke in 2011 has changed his perspective on things. "He was told he wouldn't be able to use his left side properly, wouldn't be able to finish his uni degree, wouldn't be able to drive," Adams said. "The persistence he showed through that and [the fact he] was able to achieve so many things that people said he couldn't purely through desire to do so and forging those good work habits. "At the time, I didn't realise how efficient he was in achieving outcomes they said he never would, but when you go away and think about how things came to be, there's always a good reason behind it. "I learnt from that that you get out what you put in. He put in more than what most people who might have got a worse outcome because people say you can't do it."

Harris Andrews says he enjoys playing in the backlines with fellow Lions defender Marcus Adams. "He's a star. It's so nice that if you get caught out, he just comes flying over the top with his Inspector Gadget arms," Andrews said.

Marcus Adams is set to play his first game in Brisbane colours this weekend after overcoming a long-term knee injury. Providing he gets through training during the week, Adams will be selected in the Lions' NEAFL team to play Sydney University this week.

The Bulldogs trade Marcus Adams to Brisbane for pick No.32 in the 2018 AFL Draft, as well as a third-round selection for 2019. "Marcus can play at either end of the ground, is competitive and fits our age demographic," Brisbane football manager David Noble said. "As a driven young man, Marcus will bring qualities to our culture and environment that we look for at our club."
Monday, 8 October 2018
The Western Bulldogs deny Marcus Adams' request to be traded to Brisbane. "From our end, Marcus has got two more years on a contract, so he's a required player at the Western Bulldogs," Bulldogs list manager Power said.
Sunday, 7 October 2018
Marcus Adams informs the Western Bulldogs that he wants to be traded to Brisbane despite having two years left on his contract. Adams' offer from the Lions is believed to be a three-year deal which would tie him to the club until 2021.
Saturday, 17 March 2018
Marcus Adams' terrible run with injury has continued, with a serious ankle sprain expected to see him sidelined until mid-season of 2018. Adams sustained the high-grade syndesmosis injury during match simulation at Whitten Oval on Friday, and the latest setback comes off the back of two serious foot injuries in his first two years at the Dogs.
Saturday, 27 January 2018
With injury derailing his first two seasons in the AFL, Marcus Adams is now determined to make the most of 2018. In a strange case of misfortune, Adams has sustained season-ending Lisfranc fractures in his left foot last year and his right foot in 2016, with the injuries occurring against Sydney on exactly the same part of the SCG. "(The recovery) has taken a little bit longer than expected, so I've just been working with physios to get back to full fitness," Adams said. "I know in terms of fitness and physical strength, I'm in pretty good nick, so hopefully I can get one or two JLT matches in, go all right and just put my hand up for round one"
Wednesday, 14 June 2017
Marcus Adams' season could be over after he revealed his left foot injury could see him sidelined for 10-12 weeks. "I think I'm looking at around the 10-12 (week mark) as a best-case (scenario). It will be pushing it," Adams told Channel Seven. "Hope we can go deep (into the finals) again, see how we go. The aim is (to return later) in the year, and hopefully we get there this time."
Saturday, 10 June 2017
Marcus Adams will spend 6 to 8 weeks on the sidelines after injuring his foot against Sydney. "Scans have confirmed that he has suffered a moderate grade injury to the Lisfranc ligaments that form the supporting structure at the arch of his foot," Swans physiotherapist Chris Bell said. "After specialist opinion, he does not require surgery and we will put a conservative plan around his recovery. "Marcus has been put in to a CAM boot to allow the ligament to heal, and we will reassess Marcus in the next 6-8 weeks."
Monday, 29 May 2017
Marcus Adams signs a new three-year deal with the Bulldogs that will keep him at the club until the end of 2020. "It's great to be able to extend my contract at the Bulldogs, and I'm looking forward to improving with every season," Adams said. "Last year was a great experience for me to play the games I did. It was frustrating to deal with the injuries I had, but I took a lot out of the season. "I want to establish myself in this team, and do whatever I can to help the team achieve success."

The Western Bulldogs are confident impressive first-year defender Marcus Adams will play out his contract despite exploring a possible move home to Western Australia. Adams, 23, is contracted until next year and has recently held informal discussions with the Bulldogs about a return home. "We've had some open conversations with the club over the last couple of months over where Marcus was at personally and suggested that if the right opportunity came up, we wouldn't be opposed to it ... (but) we expect he'll be there next year," Adams' manager Jason Dover said.
West Coast is interested in exploring a deal with the Western Bulldogs to secure mature-age defender Marcus Adams. "Marcus is certainly a player of interest to us," Eagles football manager Craig Vozzo said. "He's contracted obviously. We're pretty keen to explore it if that's something that the Bulldogs want to have a look at and Marcus does as well."
Monday, 4 July 2016
Marcus Adams has been ruled out for at least the next two games to nurse a foot injury. Adams suffered a mid-foot sprain late in Saturday's four-point win over the Sydney Swans and will now be required to wear a moon boot for the next fortnight. "He'll be in a boot for 10 days to two weeks and once he comes out of the boot, we'll assess him with a view to providing a return to play after that," Bulldogs football boss Graham Lowe said.
Monday, 9 May 2016
Marcus Adams will miss this Sunday's game against Melbourne after surgery on a fractured finger. "Marcus has sustained a minor fracture to one of his fingers which requires surgical intervention, so he's having that (on Monday)," Bulldogs football manager Graham Lowe said. "Following that surgery, we'll provide an update in terms of timelines, but we certainly don't see him having a significant amount of time out of the game."
Saturday, 7 May 2016
Marcus Adams has excelled as a key defender since being picked up as a mature-aged recruit by the Bulldogs. "It was a little surreal at first to be honest because I've watched these guys on TV and now I'm standing next to them," Adams said. "I never liked to lose a contest at WAFL level, but you're never going to win every contest against players of that calibre, so it's been a challenge to counteract such champions. "Coming into my first season of AFL footy, I didn't know what to expect and how I'd transition, but I've been happy with how I've adapted to the big time."
Sunday, 27 March 2016
Marcus Adams makes his AFL debut for the Western Bulldogs at Docklands Stadium with 15 disposals (8 kicks and 7 handballs), 8 marks and a tackle in a 65-point win over Fremantle.
Friday, 11 December 2015
Draftee Marcus Adams has a new club, and a new nickname after being dubbed 'The Specimen' by Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge. "I don't know where that's come from; it's got a bit carried away," Adams said. "I think it started during the recruiting process, got out and stuck from there. "It's stuck a little bit (with my teammates), but I haven’t copped too much for it."
Wednesday, 25 November 2015
The Western Bulldogs select Marcus Adams with pick No.35 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft. "He's a big man, 'The Specimen' as our coach calls him, a powerful key defender who can play straight away we think. He's athletic and powerful and a really good young fellow," Bulldogs recruitment manager Simon Dalrymple said.
