Matt Flynn is set to miss the start of the 2024 season after suffering a hamstring tendon injury while participating in the Eagles' captain's run.

Matt Flynn will officially join West Coast in 2024 as an unrestricted free agent.

"I took five years to get into the Giants side and since then I've played some good football but I haven't been able to cement my spot," he said.

"The opportunity for me was to put myself into a position where I can compete to do that but at the same time you look at the West Coast list and you've got some very good bookends, some very good players through the middle still."

Matt Flynn is set to depart the Giants as an unrestricted free agent, nominating West Coast as his preferred destination.

Matthew Flynn will require a knee reconstruction after tearing his ACL in the NEAFL.

"It's devastating for 'Flynny'," Giants footy boss Wayne Campbell said.

"He's developed each year, each month and each game really, since he's been at the football club and had been really close to senior selection.

"He stepped on the back of Jye Caldwell's leg and hyperextended his knee."

Matt Flynn signs a new deal with GWS that will keep him at the club until the end of 2019.

GWS select Matthew Flynn with pick No.41 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft after matching Melbourne's bid.

"With most young, tall ruckmen, key forwards or backs, you're trying to find that competitiveness," Giants coach Leon Cameron said.

"One thing we really like about Matty is that he's really competitive, we're hoping in line with a Shane Mumford type."
