Port Adelaide delist Sam Skinner, Sam Mayes and Taj Schofield.
Thursday, 4 November 2021
Port Adelaide signs Sam Skinner as a delisted free agent. Skinner managed three games in five seasons at the Lions, including two in 2020, before being delisted at the end of that season. "It means everything to get this chance. My partner and I moved to Adelaide to play in the SANFL to try and get another crack at it," Skinner said. "It was a big thing to pack our things up and move across after South Adelaide gave me a chance, so it means the world to both of us and my family to get that call today that Port Adelaide is willing to give me a chance. "When I finished up at Brisbane, I felt like I still had a lot to give and I aspired to get back on an AFL list so to get an opportunity to do that, I'm just really keen to get cracking."

Sam Skinner, a gifted guitarist and singer, says music has played a big role in his recovery from a third knee reconstruction. "It’s something I’ve been able to do in rehab. It’s a good escape for me and I really enjoy it," Skinner told SEN radio. "Sometimes when I come home from a day and I feel a bit flat, I just get on the guitar and it’s just a good release, really."

Sam Skinner makes his AFL debut for Brisbane with 9 disposals (4 kicks and 5 handballs), a mark, 3 tackles and 2 goals in a 68-point loss to West Coast.
Friday, 28 July 2017
Sam Skinner will make his debut this week against West Coast. Skinner was chosen to play his first game against Port Adelaide in round 19 last season, but tragically suffered an ACL injury at the team's final training session. It was the second such injury for the key defender in two years. When he runs out against the Eagles at Domain Stadium, it will be exactly one year to the day since Skinner was expected to make his debut.

Sam Skinner signs a new deal that will tie him to the Brisbane Lions until the end of 2019.

Top-10 draft prospect Ben Ainsworth says the chance to play senior footy in 2017 and reunite with underage teammates Josh Schache and Sam Skinner are the main reasons behind his desire to join the Brisbane Lions. "Getting an opportunity to play at the highest level is definitely the thing that comes to my mind, and that's why I did say I'd like to go to Brisbane," he said. "I think they're developing a pretty good culture at Brisbane and I think there's good things ahead for the club. "I know (Lions players) Josh Schache and Sam Skinner from Gippsland Power, too. "But wherever I get an opportunity it doesn't really bother me, I just want to take it with both hands."

Sam Skinner ruptures his left ACL for the second time in just over a year. Skinner, 19, was poised to debut against Port Adelaide but hyperextended his knee at training. Scans on Friday revealed the worst possible news. Skinner sustained the same injury playing for Vic Country last June and had only recently made his way back to football via the NEAFL after the Lions took him at pick No.47 in last year's draft. "Everyone at the club is really hurting for Sam," Lions football manager Matt Francis said. "He's one of our most professional and dedicated young players. It's tough for him now, but he’ll fight back bigger and better."
Wednesday, 4 May 2016
Sam Skinner has signed a new deal with Brisbane that will keep him at the club until at least the end of 2018. "We’ve been exceptionally impressed with Sam’s dedication and enthusiasm as he begins his AFL journey," Lions' football manager Matthew Francis said. “Despite arriving at the club injured, in his first season he has shown outstanding professionalism, character and commitment to building a career in the AFL. “We see this extension as just reward for his effort.”
Tuesday, 24 November 2015
Brisbane select Sam Skinner pick No.47 in the 2015 NAB AFL Draft. "We really liked Sam through the 16s and 17s. He's another who can play at both ends and we're just trying to compile young tall and talented boys who can take our club into the future," Brisbane recruiting manager Stephen Conole said of Skinner.
