New Geelong ruckman Nathan Vardy was given some great advice after getting drafted last week from his cousin and ex-Richmond Tiger Royce Vardy.

"He (Royce) rang me up after my name got called out and just said 'don't stuff it (AFL career) up like I did'," Vardy said yesterday.

"'Make the most of your opportunity because it only comes around for a few people'."
