Port Adelaide has axed midfield coach Shaun Rehn, to be replaced by West Coast strategy and innovations coach Phil Walsh.

"To have such an experienced and well-credentialed coach like Phil return to our club is very exciting," Port Adelaide director of coaching and strategy Alan Richardson said.

"Having spent the last five seasons at such a great club like West Coast, Phil will bring a wealth of experience and fresh ideas to our coaching panel.

"He played such a vital role in our club's 2004 premiership win and also the 2007 finals campaign. We see him as a perfect fit."

Matthew Primus' tenure as coach of Port Adelaide is reported to be over following an embarrassing loss to GWS.

"I've said all year we've improved, now that sounds hollow," Primus said after the game.

"And it makes you feel sick saying that. The group have come along in leaps and bounds since last year, but today just wipes all that out."

Assistant coach Shaun Rehn is reported to have been appointed by the club to take over as interim coach of the Power.

Former Port Adelaide vice-captain Josh Carr and ex-Adelaide star Shaun Rehn have joined the Power as assistant coaches .

"We've brought together a group of passionate football people who will work as a team and develop both our playing group and each other," Power coach Matthew Primus said.

"These guys all understand football, but they bring different experiences and different opinions from different environments. Most importantly they have enormous work ethic."
