Saturday, 25 March 2017

Brett Eddy makes his AFL debut for Port Adelaide at the SCG with 3 disposals (2 kicks and a handball), a mark and 2 tackles in a 28-point win over Sydney.

Wednesday, 15 March 2017

Brett Eddy is nominated as a pre-season rookie upgrade by Port Adelaide.

Eddy has been turning heads during the JLT Community Series, finishing his pre-season with a five-goal haul against Hawthorn.

"It's hard not to like Brett's story. It's one of persistence, and at every point I've spoken to him he's wanted the opportunity and chance to prove himself," Power coach Ken Hinkley said.

"He's done that all the way through the pre-season to the point that he's an upgraded rookie and a chance to make his debut in round one."

Mature-aged recruit Brett Eddy is likely to get his chance in the JLT Community Series to push for a spot on Port Adelaide's primary list, after being selected at last year's rookie draft.

Following a strong pre-season, the 27-year-old rookie is expected to feature prominently in the club's intra-club practice match this Friday before vying for selection in the club's first JLT game against St Kilda the following week.

"Brett’s worked hard throughout the pre-season to put himself in a spot now where the next month, from the (internal trial) on Friday night to the JLT Series, (it) will be a good opportunity for him to see where he’s at," Port Adelaide football manager Chris Davies said.

Port Adelaide rookie-listed forward Brett Eddy admits he thought the chances of making the AFL had passed him by at the age of 27.

Eddy won the Ken Farmer Medal as the SANFL's leading goalkicker in the past two seasons to press his claims for a long-awaited shot at the next level.

"I didn't think the opportunity would come being 27," Eddy said.

"The AFL is going down the path of picking the best players, whether they are 22 or 18.

"I think that's probably helped my case."

Eddy handed in his resignation as an associate with stockbroking firm Morgan and Stanley ahead of his transition to becoming a full-time footballer.

Monday, 24 October 2016

Port Adelaide has shown interest in drafting the SANFL's leading goal-kicker Brett Eddy as a rookie-listed mature-aged recruit.

The 27-year-old has spoken with Power officials about a possible move to Alberton and joining an AFL list for the first time.

Eddy is coming off an impressive season for South Adelaide where he booted 74 goals and was named in the SANFL's Team of the Year.
