Brandan Parfitt is ruled out of the remainder of the 2021 finals series after suffering a high-grade hamstring tear that will require surgery.

Brandan Parfitt signs a one-year contract extension with Geelong to remain at the club until the end of 2020.

"Brandan has a team-oriented focus and brings a lot of energy and excitement to the playing group," Lloyd Geelong football boss Simon said.

"A creative and an exciting playmaker, he consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic and a desire to take his football to an elite level.

"Over his two years at the club, Brandan has been heavily invested in our football program and where we are going as a group, and we look forward to seeing that continue."

Brandan Parfitt will tweak his summer program to avoid the type of high-grade hamstring strain that robbed him of a full debut season.

"This pre-season I'm going to work on that a little bit, just structurally change a little bit, with less work through the hamstrings," Parfitt said.

"I'll be working through it this pre-season. The body is feeling good. I got over the hamstring injury and played the last few games so the body is feeling the best."

Geelong re-signs a quartet of emerging Cats, with Sam Menegola, Nakia Cockatoo, James Parsons and Brandan Parfitt all inking new deals with the club.

Menegola and Parsons have signed three-year deals with the Cats, which will keep the duo at Simonds Stadium until the end of 2020, while Cockatoo and Parfitt have both recommitted until the end of 2019.

Geelong will be without Brandan Parfitt for 8-10 weeks after scans confirmed a high-grade hamstring strain.

Parfitt will not be required undergo surgery with medical staff expecting him to return later in the season.

The 19-year-old suffered the injury when chasing Magpie Jack Crisp in the last quarter of the Cats' 29-point loss.

Brandan Parfitt is named the 2017 round 3 Rising Star nominee.

"It's a pretty cool feeling after all the hard work over the summer, so it's good to see it pay off," Parfitt said.

Having fellow Northern Territorians Steven Motlop and Nakia Cockatoo at the club has made Parfitt feel welcome at the Cats.

"It was definitely an easy adjustment to already know two blokes (Motlop and Cockatoo), but I've made some really good mates and I'm staying with a great host family," he said.

"There is a lot of talent in Darwin and it's not as exposed as places down here."

Geelong's first selection at the 2016 NAB AFL Draft, Brandan Parfitt, was in shock when told he would wear the Cats No.3 jumper made famous by recently retired Jimmy Bartel.

"It was definitely one of those pinch-yourself moments," Parfitt said.

"He is obviously a legend of the game and I'll definitely be wearing the number with pride."

Geelong select Brandan Parfitt with pick No.26 in the 2016 National Draft.

"We rated Brandan really highly. He was an All Australian in his Under-17 year," Geelong list manager Stephen Wells said.

"He's a terrific, developing midfielder. He can play in the forward line as well and we're very confident that once he gets to Geelong his development will continue."
